Just want to point out that my posts concerning the current postion of bailiffs in Northern Ireland and the reasons behind it was simply stating the historical position and absolutely not in any way support for violence.

Ballot= good

Bullet= bad

I wouldn't want you to think that I was taking an opposing, rather than a slightly different view.

As an import, I think NI is one of the best places in UK to live - I certainly wouldn't want to move back to the mainland.

I have now also complained to Ofcom - I would again respectfully suggest that those who feel strongly do the same, pointing out the problems with content, portrayal and the unlawful actions portrayed within the program.

All help is merely my opinion only - please seek legal advice if you need to as I am only qualified in SEN law.

I have remained quiet...but hey...topic here...

My issues with the program.

It did not give a breakdown of the Bailiffs fees. 28 outstanding parking fees I didn't quite understand the figure of £4,000 but hey, the guy who paid appeared very controlled to me when he was shown nothing to verify the charges or evidence of the cost of warrants.......[problem]???

The fees were not compliant with legislation and no amount of mathematics I have found in reading the charges and am sure Tom tubby will back me up that multiple levies are unlawful.

)

I think it was 19 fines not the 28 you quote, assuming they were all Westminster warrants.

1st warrant around £500 for visit, attendance, van and clamp.

2nd to 10th warrant = 168.16 x 9

11th warrant 1st visit plus attendance around £360.

12th to 19th warrants = 168.16 x 8.

This would add up to around £4k. This is the closest i could come up with according to fee structures on some sites.

How do you get at 1st warrant for £500!??

11th warrant plus attendance £360???

I didn't see the Bailiff split himself in half and be two different people or was 11 just his lucky number????

So 2 first visits....I fail to see how thats possible, its either a 1st visit or a second not 2 first visits!

From what i understand a bailiff can charge an Attendance to remove on the first and eleventh warrant on multiple offences.

As the vehicle was clamped, it seems the charge made was for 1st visit, attendance to remove, seizure fee and clamp fee. With the company in view, they charge £120 attendance, £120 seizure and £50 clamp, plus the £57 visit plus admin plus VAT.

The BBC think its OK to have taxpayers finance their publicity initiatives.

I complained to the beeb saying:

This is a TV program showing a family having their front door kicked in and their car stolen by a gang of thugs called JBW Enforcements Ltd. Programs advocting violence in this way don't give the audience any educational value, and its certainly not entertainment. JBW has no place on our airwaves and the license fee money must not be used promoting any company that has a modus operandi consistent with organised crime. Please stop this program.

The Beeb said:

Thank you for your e-mail regarding 'Enforcers'.

We are in receipt of your email dated 11th November. We have been advised that there is no legal reason preventing the BBC from transmitting the programme to which you refer. You will appreciate that the BBC is unable to become involved in disputes between third parties.

Nevertheless, I would like to assure you that we have registered your comments on our audience log. This is the internal report of audience feedback which we compile daily for all programme makers and commissioning executives within the BBC, and also their senior management. It ensures that your points, and all other comments we receive, are circulated and considered across the BBC.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact us with your concerns.

It appears I wasn't the only one complaining. Their reply is generic in nature suggesting this reply is used in bulk. Thousands of complainants may have had the same reply.

I got the same standard response - I can't say for definite I will complain after this evening's program, but I will certainly be watching with interest and make my mind up then whether to complain or not.

I also complained got my reply just now

Thank you for your e-mail regarding the 14 November edition of 'The

Enforcers'.

Please accept our apologies for the delay in replying. We know our

correspondents appreciate a quick response and we are sorry you have had

to

wait on this occasion.

I note that you believe the bailiffs on the programme were portrayed in

a

favourable light and I acknowledge that you felt this was inappropriate.

'The Enforcers' is an observational documentary which aims to show the

process of how traffic offences are detected and dealt with by various

agencies, and features the day to day work of both the police and

bailiffs.

The programme is produced in accordance to the BBC Editorial Guidelines

and

we believe that it is fair and balanced in relation to all parties

featured.

The other BBC programme you refer to in your e-mail - 'Whistleblower' -

did

expose certain bailiff companies undertaking incorrect practices.

However

the new series of 'The Enforcers' does not feature those bailiff

companies.

Nevertheless, I would like to assure you that we have registered your

comments on our audience log. This is the internal report of audience

feedback which we compile daily for all programme makers and

commissioning

executives within the BBC, and also their senior management. It ensures

that your points, and all other comments we receive, are circulated and

considered across the BBC.

Amused...want to see my bbc reply?

Dear Mr S****

Thank you for your email of 14th November 2007, and apologies for the delay in replying to you.

We are sorry you feel that by transmitting The Enforcers the BBC is

promoting or endorsing bailiffs.

The Enforcers is an observational documentary, and we do not believe that

it is editorially biased.

The second BBC programme you refer to in your email - Whistleblower - did

expose certain bailiff companies undertaking incorrect practices. However

the new series does not feature those bailiff companies.

The Enforcers aims to show the process of how traffic offences are detected and dealt with by various agencies, and features the day to day work of both the police and bailiffs.

The Enforcers deals with a different subject matter to Whistleblower, and

we believe it is fair and balanced in relation to all parties featured.

Yours sincerely

Sarah Ewen
