Do you really think we are free, personally i think us working class are born into servitude, we work like slaves to society..i work atleast 50hrs a week, so does my partner and just about get through week by week, taxed to death in every way to keep us down, dont talk to me about a free civil democratic society, our government are dictators the same as the rest, we just bury our heads in the sand and too spineless to do anything about it except moan moan moan!

Why is an uprising out of the question, then? Other than because every time someone rebels against the State, The Daily Mail and The Sun tell us that they're very naughty people and we believe them, I mean.

I'd consider it a privilidge to have you beside me DW, even though the concept of a British uprising amuses me a bit. We'd probably all just gather around Parliament and only have one sugar in our tea because we're being rebellious.

Personally, I think the only thing that's wrong with this country is that we're all too ready to believe whatever the press want us to believe. It always ends up as the little man v's the little man - we point the finger at each other rather than at "The Man".

On another note, dealing with our ladies suggestions earlier, an uprising would involve criminal acts (unless you want a civil war). My take on what we should do this summer, especially as it's the queen's jubilee and Olympics is to stage mass rallies and protests as the world's media are going to be focused on the UK for the best part of six months before, during the main Olympics, then paralympics, and after, and of course, the queens bloomin' jubilee... An Ideal opportunity to show the rest of the Commonwealth what's going on in the UK and an open invitation to the world's media to see the plight of the disadvantaged 'swept under the carpet'. I would attend peaceful protests if I can get someone to help with my wheelchair as I can't walk unaided outside and would be much safer in my wheelchair in a crowd... Any offers in the South Wales area to help?

Did I catch something about stand pipes on the news today? I'm sure I heard that if this winter is as "dry" as last winter, next year the water companies are going to introduce stand pipes. Doesn't feel quite right when I clearly saw a picture of a chap in Somerset using a jet ski to get to work, because the local river has burst it's banks and turned the foot path into a waterway.

I know a few people who do very peaceful protests, they're a lovely bunch of guys - and one of them is in a wheelchair himself (although in one protest the police manhandled him and took him away, he did nothing whatsoever wrong)! I think the majority of them are down south, but they have contacts all over the UK, so if you like I can ask them for you?

We're running out of fuel, even money - I think it will return to a back to basics, which in my book can only be a good thing! We're a spoiled species, a reality check would do us all good!

Oh trust me, you're not - although I think we're a smaller minority than I'd like!

I notice that certain types of people who have not given one single thought to not only other countries who are suffering drought or disease or hunger etc - let alone given a thought to the fact that those countries are a part of and in "our world" - and the sheer damage we have done to this world has not just crept up on us.

Yet these people are in uproar about the monitory side of the collapse of this world

I know it's not good, but it's not the end of the world if they can't afford their usual 2-3 holidays a year, it's not the end of the world if they can't afford to run two cars, it's not the end of the world if they can't afford the latest designer things - but to them you see it is!

If these people had to live in a place such as Africa for just a week, they would soon realise how good they'd had it - scrub that actually, because they wouldn't

I think it might just be because money really doesn't bother me any more. I've accepted that I'll never own a house (actually quite relieved about that, really), I've accepted that I'm never going to belong to the three-holidays-a-year crew and I'm good with it all, as it happens.

Years of having no money (and being a complete wally with what little I did have) have actually made me extremely grateful to be in the position where although I'm not exactly flush, I'm not fishing around down the back of the sofa for 5p's to buy a loaf of bread with at the end of the month, either.

My life's alright, actually. I just reserve the right to complain loudly on behalf of other people, that's all.

Same here LG - and I wouldn't want to be part of the "three-holidays-a-year-crew", not if gives you the attitude that I've seen others who are part of that have!

One of them I know regularly goes to the US - if you were to ask her "did you have a nice time"? Her reply usually is, "well, you know it was okay - we go all the time, we're used to it, we don't even bother taking photos anymore"

And they're also usually some of the most tightfisted people I know

I mean, if you can go abroad 4 times in one year, once to Spain, once to Bulgaria, and twice to the US - yet can't pay for your Grandchild who is sick to go to Disneyland Paris for 5days, and only gets to go through the kindness of a charity, then that takes tight to a whole new level!

The less you have, the more you appreciate not only the simpler things in life, but everything in life - that is a huge problem with society now, they so busy with materialistic things, they don't notice how lucky they are every minute of every day - we have clean running water, we have clean air, we have lush greenery! We can go about our daily business without the worry of being shot or blown up.

Sitting of a morning listening to the morning chorus with a nice cup of tea, means more to me than most things - absolute heaven!

I'd like to be part of the 3 holidays a year crew!!! I'm pretty sure I could handle that and still be a normal nice person (just with a wicked tan:))

I would imagine they're not all like that (well I'd like to hope not)! I have two friends who are the absolute opposite of each other when it comes to being well off - one bless her really doesn't have much at all, but whatever she has, if you need it, you can have it! And my other friends, is what we'd call rolling in it she's not in the least as I described, and has in fact only just come back from her first holiday in years - she'll also help anyone if they need it!

But someone else I know, I remember there being a discussion about how the government were causing people to live on the breadline, and were genuinely struggling to feed their family - when this one piped up ( and was being utterly serious ) "oh well it looks like I'm going to have to sell my other car"
