I'm just introducing myself to the forum, as I am about to embark on the process of trying to reclaim my bank charges. I bank with Nat West. I have ordered all of my statements from the last 6 years. Some have arrived (about 4 years worth) and the rest are due tomorrow. Adding up all the charges so far (and I'm including anything that has "charge" written next to it) totals over £1200. Obviously, there will be more to come! Hopefully, this forum will be able to help me through the process of claiming this money back. I am off work sick at present and would be unable to cope with paying court costs or anything similar, if it did come to this. So, hello all. I hope I'm going to find some help here!

Thanks

David

Hey uberdave - welcome on board mate!! You're definately in the right place now if you're claiming back charges from Nat West!

Just to help you with which charges you can and can't claim, have a read through Nattie's stickies (top of the Nat West forum page) - he explains all about the unarranged borrowing fees, card misuse payment fees, etc.

It's hit and miss at the moment as to what stage Nat West are paying out.......... some are given 'goodwill payments' at prelim and LBA stages, whilst others are having to go the whole hog and take them to court. Hopefully, you'll have a success before the court stage - fingers crossed for you!!!

Good luck mate - and if you need any help, advise, support or encouragement......... just post on this thread and you'll find there's always someone around to help out. Best wishes, hedgey xxx ;)

Thanks a lot hedgey. I'm at a bit of a loss with how to start all this at the moment, so it's good to know I can get advice. Hopefully, the rest of my statements will arrive tomorrow, so I'll be able to total up the relelvant charges and get my first letter sent off.

Cheers again

David

Hey Dave - it's really confusing at first isn't it? But don't worry, you're in the right place!!!

Have a good luck at those two threads I mentioned before- they really do give you a comprehensive list of what you can and can't claim (especially if you have or have had an Advantage Gold account).

When you've got all your statements, the only advice I can give you is to go through them with a highlighter pen at least 3 times - it's so easy to miss charges off them the first one or two times!!! And you'll probably be really surprised to see how the charges have mounted up over the years too!!!

Let us know how you get on once your statements arrive - and make sure you send your prelim letter (with schedule of charges attached - 8% interest column hidden) to Stuart Higley at the Borehamwood address, recorded delivery (only costs a quid!!). Good luck - see ya' soon, hedgey xx :p

i'm still waiting for my second batch of statements to come through, but from looking around here it appears as if I could be claiming back further. I originally just went into my branch to request statements. Do you think that I should go into my branch again to request statements predating the 6 years back that I have already ordered? Do you think there will be an additional fee for this? (money is a bit of an issue for me at present). Should I write instead of revisiting the branch? And how far back should I be investigating? I graduated in 1999, so there will be no charges prior to that, as I had a student account. In fact, I think I may be clear for the 3 years after this too as it was a graduate account then...

i've now receieved all my bank statements, have highlighted all the relevant charges and am getting ready to start this process in earnest. Whats the next stage? Put all these charges into the spreadsheet?
