We'd like to spend about £300 on some law books. We will probably need more later.

It would be helpful if people thought that they might like to chip in.

We have no accounts and no way of showing that the money is correctly spent.

It seems that the best way would be if anyone who is interested might like to purchase and send us an Amazon Gift certificate to [email protected]

These start at £5.00, I'm afraid and need a credit card - so that might cause a problem for some people on this site, unfortunately.

here's the link

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/gc-email-order1/ref=g_gc_email/202-2538737-6912639

If anyone has any criticism of this request, please let us know publicly on this thread.

We aren't very happy to be asking in this way but we don't have any other ideas.

Any contributions will be thanked privately and we will post when and if the certificates amount to £300. We will post Amazon receipts so that people can see what has been bought.

Thanks

I'm hoping to make £100 from Barclays on account of MSE - so here's a bit of it for BAG. Ironic eh? :-) Hope it helps. I'm fortunate enough to be in a position where I've only had to pay bank charges once - through my own forgetfulness - but I'm not presumptuous enough to assume that misfortune will never hit me as it has others on here and if it does I hope you'll still be around to help! Bankfodder - what prompted me to send this was the help you volunteered to Smudge (Nationwide in Court thread). Please keep us posted when it's appropriate? I can imagine the hours you must all input and I hope it helps to know how much you're appreciated. You, Dave and others are doing a grand job !!

It's very kind of you to say so and very kind of you to contribute.

Let's hope that what we are planning with Smudge actually comes off. If it does then it will be significant for him and for us (and for NW!).

It's quite a brave thing for Smudge to be trying - but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Gentlemen, you are doing the work of Heroes, and if buying you some Law books means that I, myself, won't need to spend time trying to digest them, I think it is the very least the rest of us could do.

However, (there's always a catch!), as you suggested, some of us don"t have credit cards, debit cards or even Cheque books, so purchasing Amazon vouchers is impossible.

Is there any other means of getting financial help to you? As a gesture of thanks for the renewed sense of optimism you have given me, plus the knowledge that I am not the only victim of the Bank's profiteering and intransigence, I feel deeply indebted to you. ( More than I do to the Banks, anyway!)

Phil

That is very kind. However, I don't know how to deal with it. We don't really want money sent to ourselves and I would like to be transparent as possible.

I'm about to order a book from Wildeys in London which is rather expensive - but necessary. I suppose that you could send them a postal order made out to Wildeys with a note to put it aside for the Bank Action Group.

Does something like that sound OK? I coould call them on Monday and ask them whether they could handle that. If they say no, then I'm out of ideas.

I'm tempted to suggest that the Bank Action Group opens a voluntary organisation type bank account so that people could pay money in but this would (a) require a formal structure of some kind and (b) pose an interesting problem of finding a bank that would be prepared to do so. There's probably one in Patagonia but it might be a bit of a hike to get to a branch. :D

In a similar vein I have access to financial accounts, business journals and specialist banking information databases as part of my MBA. If anyone wants me to dig out any information please let me know.

That would be fine! Please let me know their response, and, if appropriate, address details, etc.

With regard to the work you are doing on behalf of all of us:

I will make it a personal thankyou, that all monies that I reclaim as a result of information garnered from the collective information displayed on this site, I will repay in the form of 5% of actual received, either via court action or out of court settlement. This is a personal pledge, so please do not use it as a form of advertising, or inducement. I wouldn't want it used in that way . In the respect of the rest of the folk, at the risk of sounding corny, I refer you to that Kevin Costner Film Field of Dreams; "If you build it, they will come". Humanity has a way of shining through and if you receive only 20% of pledges made, you will be OK!

If anything is left over there are a lot of people ( single parents )struggling to find court costs in the interim, who want to add thier voice to this Forum but lack the money to do so. In turn they could perhaps give 5% back. 5% of what they get back is better than 5% of "Knack All " and it is an extra voice to add to the argument. Don't forget, there are a lot of people out there who are blighted by this, but who cannot afford to find as much as £100+ to fight it to the last step after the fobbing off stage to get the documents issued. I know that some people are covered if they get certain benefits as far as legal costs of this nature go. But there are genuine cases where £100+ just isn't an option and an argumentative voice is silenced by poverty, the very people this site is trying to protect ( surely). Could you not introduce a prominent link whereby people who benefit from the advice and experience of the views given by your site make some form of contribution to those who would benefit most. Perhaps some form of Charitable/ tax relief status would apply here to the benefitof all. Just an idea, but my pledge holds, I'd rather you had my 5% of whatever that the Bank etc. has had in its pocket for the last six years and do something positive for the average "Joe". You would, I hope make better use of it. I await your comments. :)

all ideas and information exchanged willingly, bounce the ideas around,it helps everyone at the end of the day, good luck to you all and God Bless...LoL Graham & Yvonne

It is a great idea but at the moment we are so busy with the site and trying to upgrade the server and a million other things that it is diffuclut to find time to get around to everything including this.

getting the kinds of charitable status etc which you suggest takes alot of time and adminsitrative work that we can't begin to turn our attention to at the moment.

We actually need a staff. We have almost 2000 users and we are stretched.

We anticipate a very large rise in registered user inthe next week or so - and I mean thousands. If this happens then the nature of the support which we are curently providing will have to change I am sorry to say.

there will be less personal involvment from Dave and myself and more reliance on other informed individuals who become regular vistors to the site. On the other hand, if we are right about the increase in Users it will make The Bank Action Group a more significant group in the battle against the banks

Dave

I think that to restrict people to particular sections would not work and would potentially prevent some people from giving good responses to question in sections to which they had not been allocated.

I think that it is just better to welcome as many people as possible and hope that those people who are competent to contribute will find it interesting enough to visit often and to support others who maybe don't have the knowledge or the confidence.

Hopefully the tone and the direct pragmatic approach taken by this forum is sufficiently clear by now

The trouble is that if that person is on holiday or otherwise not available then that section loses its moderator and other moderators might think that it isn't appropriate to trespass on someone else's territory.

I do think that a non-structured approach might be more flexible.
