That is if the police are interested. They usually will only stand around to keep the peace !!! DEspite you knowing what you want or what the law says about it.

And keeping the peace could see you arrested for blowing chilli in a bailiffs face, it's common assault.

Plus, if you "keep something to hand" it's pre-meditated assault.

Now, if you were to instinctively reach out in fright for something that just "happened to be there", and belt him with it that's an entirely different matter. But you would still be on sticky ground.

chillie powder is usually kept at the entrance to a house. Also the exit to a house to ward away evil spirits.

Really !!!!!

Not at my house, and never at anyone's house I know of !

A word of caution if the cops do turn up make sure you don't utter any words of abuse at the bailiff as that is also assault for which you can be arrested. Assuming he isn't collecting council tax etc: & has no enforcement order the most affective action is to demand the debt collector & even the copper if he/she ain't cooperating leave your property forthwith.

Some asian houses do this. I think it applies to those that are and are not religiously minded !!!!!

Husandkhan, although many people would feel like taking this kind of action, "We, and I hope that I speak for the majority of people on this site" can not condone this type of action. this is tantermount to common assault.

If these are the type of actions that you condone then please keep them to yourself.

If only to keep the rest of us from going down your route of action, and, landing ourselves in hot water. "Please think before speaking.

Simonjohn, I am not sure that it is Husbandkhan who should be taking your fathers' advice.

He was advocating the use of chilli powder in response to the OP having

his back door pushed in by a bailiff who did not have the right to force an entry. So it could hardly be classed as common assault especially as the OP

was coming to protect his wife who was injured by the bailiff. As I do not

have chilli powder to hand , a more serious riposte might have occurred had

the same situation been at my house. Indeed, a spraying would have been

one of the lighter alternatives that could have been applied.

just out of interest, are you muslim? my step sister lives within an asian community and converted about 20 years ago and i have never seen one household within the community that has chilli powder by the door.

Looking if you do not have chilli powder then black pepper would have the same effect. Thanks for backing me on this.

are you determined to go red again? perhaps to match the chilli?

Well would it be an idea for self defence to keep a small packet of chillie powder to hand . If you are threatned with a bailff using his flab as muscles make his eyes water. It should buy you enough time to call the police etc.

Would you care to PM me and explain exactly what you mean. I Know you are aware of the rules regarding members conduct on this forum.
