I have just seen on the news that a new Consumer Rights Act has come into force, is this replacing SOGA or are the two different things?

Sorry for seeming bit dim! lol

SD, this is a General Consumer issue, so I have moved you to that forum. (no action required on your part, purely administrative).

I don't know whether SOGA disappears now this new Act is in force (from today 1.10.2015) However, it streamlines 8 pieces of legislation in one place and gives new rights to consumers.

You will find this new act linked in the CAG library where it has been broken down into the different sections. If you follow the links within the different sections back to the original document there are further links which are called "Explanatory Notes", these make the new legislation even easier to understand.

New consumer protection measures - including longer refund rights - have come into force under the Consumer Rights Act.

For the first time anyone who buys faulty goods will be entitled to a full refund for up to 30 days after the purchase.

Previously consumers were only entitled to refunds for a "reasonable time".

Does the 30 days replace 'reasonable time' or is it an additional right.

Is the 30 days a strict limit ?

If so, no more buying xmas presents before 29th Nov.

From today, new laws will give you greater consumer protection measures as the Consumer Rights Act comes into effect.

Consumers will be entitled to full refunds for up to 30 days after the purchase if they buy faulty goods.

And new protection has come in for anyone who buys digital content - including for online books, films and music.

Snowdragon (and others)

I have reduced your post to a simple quote and a link to the original post.

Can we please ensure that when we are quoting stories from other websites that we only post up 10-15% of the story and include a link at the end so that users can read the entire post if they choose to do so.

This is done to protect others copyrighted material and saves us the hassle of edting posts to fit with that requirement.
