Hi all

I received notification from dla that my daughter has been awarded the care component.

I didn't know about the disabled child element of tax credits until early this week, her award was dated within a month of calling them when I found out.

They said they would backdate to 21/11/14, I asked if this would be worked into the rest of the year or a backpayment.

I was advised I would receive a back payment.

Today I have received a small one off Payment equalling aprox 1/3 of the backpayment I would have expected so called tax credits.

I was advised that this is a small one off payment and the rest has been spread over the rest of the tax year !

I've asked for a escalation as I specifically asked and was told different.

We also needed the back payment to be honest to get clothing and some other items as my child has a eating disorder, the money once we found out was a weight off our shoulders.

Does anyone know where to go with this ?

Ty

Being backdated and being paid as a lump sum are two different things.

It should have been backdated if you called within one month but that doesn't mean it is paid as a lump sum.

As long as you receive the correct entitlement for the year, then you cannot ask for it to be paid specifically as a lump sum. Payments are generated by the system. The only control you or they have is whether it's weekly or 4 weekly.

Sorry that it's not the answer you want to hear.

Does suck when told different by phone rep tho.

Need to find money elsewhere now to clothe daughter as she's lost so much weight nothing fits. She's 11 and in 7-8 clothes, an they are mostly too big.
