Hi

My son receives carers allowance and IS for caring for his grandma.

At the moment she has a carer coming in each morning for half an hour to help with her toileting etc, this is being provided by the council but in a week or so it will be transferred out to a private company after this initial assessment period.

Will my sons carers allowance be affected due to his nan having help for 3.5 hours per week from an agency.

Thanks for any response

The criteria for claiming Carer's Allowance is fairly basic. As long as the claimant is 16 or over and spend at least 35 hours a week caring, there shouldn't be any problems with an outside agency helping for a few extra hours per week.
