Letter from Willen

I have received a letter from a collection agency called Willen Compello

regarding a credit card debt I owe from a previous address (I moved out 6 years this coming Sept).

 

The letter does not go into specifics other than asking if I live at that address and gives apologies if I don't.

 

This letter was sent to my parents address as that was where I lived prior to the one the credit card was registered at,

which worries me as I do not want any dodgy characters turning up at my parents door.

 

I have moved several times since I left that address 6 years ago (not intentionally avoiding, just student life!)

which makes me wonder why they have contacted a past address and not my current one?

 

I am told that they may just be trying to 'get a bite' and that this debt may be time barred/lapsed as I am in Scotland?

I don't want to ignore that the debt exists (its about time I face up to things),

but I also do not want to contact this company to arrange possible re-payments

before I am ready and without seeking prior advice on where I stand.

 

I am also unsure of exactly how much this debt is,

although at an estimate I would say £3000,

but I can't find that out without contacting them first!!

 

Do I contact them?

Do I ignore them?

 

Any advice on this would be very much appreciated,

especially as at the moment my main concern are scary blokes turning up at my parents door!

DCA's or their doorsteppers ARE NOT BAILIFFS

and have

NO SUCH LEGAL POWERS.

Ok great.

 

So MKDP and MKRR are debt collection agencies working under assumed names, i.e. in this case Willen?

 

How do I go about getting my credit file and what should I be looking for? if I do that can they track me to my current address? In some ways Id much rather that was a the case, I don't want any letter etc going to my parents and causing them worry.

 

Sorry for all the questions, I've tried to read up on this as much as I can but its all a bit overwhelming with DCAs and CRAs and XYZs!!
