Hello All.

Today I received a letter from a debt collection agency SRJ debt recovery services. based in Weybridge.

That states:

They have made enquiries for confirmation of your currant place of residence.

Information has been received confirming that your address details have changed to this address.

Due to Data protection legislation details of the account are not included in this letter.

Please call us immediately on 0845******* quoting the above reference for more information.

I am in my 60's and have never owed anyone money,

if I want something I save up and pay cash for it.

I have no outstanding bills of any kind, all utility bills are paid direct debit.

I must admit I am extremely upset,

and also very angry by this,

and don't know what to do?

Can someone please advise me.

Thank you.

First of all do not phone them ever & if SRJ phone you, refuse to go through any security questions, just say "in writing only" and hang up, do not get involved into an argument as to why, just hang up.

SRJ are pretty much at the bottom of the barrel with debt collection.

Wait until SRJ send something concrete through the post.

Check your Credit File just in-case.

Is your name spelt correctly on the letter? Sometimes a DCA will write to every Mr. A. N. Other in the area hoping to get the right person.

Until something comes through, just forget about it, carry on life as normal.

Stigman

NEVER telephone a DCA

If a DCA rings you, refuse to go through the security questions & hang up!

Thank you Stigman.

I am amazed that they can pick people's names out of the blue and send these letters out, surely this sort of thing cannot be legal?

I feel as though someone out there is demanding money with menace, and if they do send another of these letters, what can I do next?

Thanks again.

It's a phishing letter. report it to the regulator.

Any advice i give is my own and is based solely on personal experience. If in any doubt about a situation , please contact a certified legal representative or debt counsellor..

god are SRJ still around

and pulling these stunts.

they usually chase VERY VERY old util bills [gas, elec, normally water rates though]

outside of 6yrs so no chance.

if you type in SRJ in our grey top toolbar search on the right

you'll see several copies of the same letter here.

just remember they are NOT BAILIFFS

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

Use the following link http://www.oft.gov.uk/ or contact your local trading Standards,

You obviously have details similar to someone who holds liability for this debt/account, they will have sent this letter to everyone in your area with a similar name etc in the hope of scaring someone (anyone) into making a payment. They really don't care if they get the right person as long as someone pays them. as previously advised complain and do not respond to anything similar from any other company.

I think you have to use the fca now. Not the oft.

Correct FCA now regulates CCA '74 since 04/04/2014.

Any Letters I Draft are N0T approved by CAG and no personal liability is accepted.
