I have just received a demand for payment for an account I am supposed to have held with Lloyds. I never held an account with Lloyds in my name. The only one I can vaguely recall is perhaps one with my then-partner.

 

They give account number and amount but no other details. What should I do?

Simple. Send them a prove it letter.

If this was a joint account in both names then remember that "joint & several liability" comes into play. This means that one or both are liable.

 

When you use the word "vaguely" it implies that this was a long time ago? How long ago?

Just an ordinary demand letter - account is about 5 years old.

What was the status of the account when you and your ex split?

Don't know about credit file but it was a current account and we had an overdraft of around 4000. Now sure what state we left it in. Last I dealt with the bank there were nearly 2200 in charges. I complained and they said they were awaiting unfair charges case results. And, I never heard from them and I didn't follow it up thinking that all had been sorted out.
