To uninstall, 1st go to the start screen, then hold the Windows key and tap X

Anyone have any idea, removed spybot , have no printer/camera attached, basically uses comp for browsing etc.

sounds like a virtual memory issue? something is hogging your system, maybe the cloud antivirus?

how much system ram do you have?

can you check the virt memory settings? control panel, system, advanced settings, advanced, performance, settings, advanced - should be a figure there re virt memory? sometimes that goes awol.

2gb is pretty much bare minimum for Windows 8

go to the start menu

Type "performance options" (without the quotes)

click settings on the right side, and click the performance options in the settings

untick all

Give that a whirl

that seems about right re allocated for all drives, ie usually around 1.5 x the system ram re system managed. what is the minimum set at? what is the recommended?

could try custom/increasing it? as per link below?

this info is re win 7, but should be transferable

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows7/preventing-low-memory-problems

do you have a separate graphics card with its own memory, or is your graphics an onboard chip on the motherboard and thus using system memory?

does not say what min or max is and think graphics card must be installed, not a pc expert lol

thats it

trend antivirus plus/internet security? seems to be cloud based. but they say that it is supposed to be light on resources. given that you have probs when browsing maybe it is that? i know you've paid for it, but could you disable it for a bit, or trim its settings, and see what happens?

have you tried disabling win defender realtime protection?

do you have free tech support from where you bought the pc? maybe they can suggest something as they set up the pc?

Link to post

yes I have tech support, costs me £6.50 a month and I had to set up the comp! I will try the other things you have suggested Ford, thanks

It doesn't appear, that's why you need the removal tool

Run that and see how performance is after

Bobcat2 and any others, I've fixed the Memory and Firefox problem, it was caused by a Java plugin, how I did it was like this.

On the Firefox tab click on the down arrow

Click on Add-ons Manager

Disable the Java Platform and Java Deployment toolkit items

Restart the system, and the problem with Firefox hanging should go away

9 times out of 10 it is Java updates which cause crashes in Windows based systems.
