Hello all,

I just have a quick question on PPI if you would be kind enough to help me

I have had a mortgage on my property with RBS for 7 years. Does anyone know if I may have been charged PPI for this as I have no longer got the original policy documents from all that time ago? (I know you wont know about my specific arrangement with RBS - im just asking if its possible that I have been paying it in my monthly repayments - I dont believe I ever paid an up front lump sum at least)

I have recently requested a copy of the original agreement etc from RBS but not yet had a response.

Aside from potential for PPI I was also hit with a "higher lending charge" of £4k because my deposit was small - this I would imagine there is probably nothing I can do about, but I am wondering if anyone knows otherwise? It just seems to me that if people are reclaiming PPI etc then I guess it is feasible that such an unfair charge isnt right either?

Any advice on the above would be great. Thanks all.

Luke

Hi

The higher lending charge isn't a claimable item...at least I've never seen one successfully claimed.

If you didn't pay single premium PPI i.e. added to the loan at the outset then it would have been a separate monthly payment to your mortgage.

If you can get a copy of the agreement then that will confirm or deny whether you had single premium PPI.

If not you will have to check your bank statements to see if a second payment was going out alongside your mortgage on or about the same date. This would likely be to a third party.

Hi, thanks for the fast reply

I have written to them using a template from moneysavingexpert requesting a copy of my original agreement with them from 6-7 years ago and enclosing the £1 payment they might have wanted to provide it. Sent it recorded delivery and they got it a few days ago.

I have gone through my old bank statements online from those times, and can see no seperate debits coming out alongside the mortgage.

Guess its just a matter of waiting for them to send me that copy of the old agreement before I know how I can proceed?

For info we had MPPI on our RBS mort which we did claim and got back. Ours showed as a completely separate direct debit which initially said it was for direct line insurance, then later RBS insurance. TBH if I hadn't known what it was I may well have assumed it was car or house insurance on the statements. It certainly was linked to the mortgage and was paid on a completely different day of the month.
