I may be soon in line for a promotion to a senior management level but it's company policy that to be at this level you cannot have any family working in your store and that they would need to leave,,,is this legal?

Well I've been told this is company policy to avoid conflicts of interest and I know that over the years people have left because of this, but I have never seen anything in the company handbook about this?

I can understand such a policy when two partners are working at the same level, in the same department of the same company... Such a situation may occasionally provoke conflicts of interest... if asking for a copy of the policy does not trigger an adverse reaction, you may want to approach your HR department...

This would not be in the staff/employee handbook you would have to request a copy of that specific Policy from the company and as has been said by Bigredbus
