in changing from one insurer to another with better price, the old insurere refused to cancel unless payment for whole of 'contract' is paid, and withholding the nec cancellation ncb, info for new insurer? relying on t & c's, but this seems unfair, and a bit ott - never realised motor insurers now routinely rely on breach of contract to get exhorbitant sums for changing insurer

any ideas?

from what i have researched so far it looks like once you are over the 14 day cancellation period, the terms and conditions, allow the insurer, as mine do, to charge for the rest at percentages of the remaining period, i think something like 20% from the first month and so on, so if 6 months in to the policy being 12 months, then they might ask for 50% and call it something like short term policy?? however, having already paid this by monthly DD, they ask for the remainder at this percentage rate? and the cancellation fee. so if i am say one month in, then it might not be so costly as being 7 months into a policy??

have i understood that right. also, ncb is 30 years. change of vehicle prompted change as prices varied so much.

found this on the policy

'if you or we cancel within 12 months of the Policy Start Date, we will calculate the premium for the period of cover based on our short period rates in orforce when we receive the Cerificate of Motor Insurance and refund any excesspremium you have paid'

surely this means refunds for those paying the whole policy fee at start - how can this apply to those paying monthly by DD, and make them liable for the whole years policy if you cancel??
