Before I take the plunge and call cccs, I'm just after some advice from others who have been/are on a dmp. Will it affect my bank account in any way. will I have my debit card taken off me & my account closed? I have an overdraft but only £50 and can pay that off next week so my account will be in the black. I just really don't want to lose my bank account or card...I really rely on it and i have my tax credits/child benefit paid into it every month.

Also, do i stay with cccs until my debt is cleared? Or will I have to go it alone after 12 months?

Any advice from others would be great!

Also, one other thing...I've been looking at possibly getting a debt relief order which would really help my current situation. The only thing is, i could be due to recieve some inheritance money soon (could be 2 months, could be 12 months, could be longer). If this came through during the 1st 12 months (or even after) of a DRO, would i then have to give that to my creditors? Would it affect a DMP? I'm so confused about the ins and outs of everything!! :???::???:

Hi Alison,

Let's start with the inheritance. You may or may not be getting it, so realistically you cannot consider that at the moment.

As regards your bank account, you keep that. What CCCS would do is go through your Income / Expenditure with you, identify what disposable income you have available. They then list your creditors and how much you owe each one in total and work out pro rata payments from your disposable income. They may or may not do other things like writing and asking for all interest and charges to be stopped. This is something worth your while asking them when you initially meet.

It will be reviewed every so often and you can opt out of it at any time. If you read through the threads on here you'll find many people who started off on a managed DMP then decided to do their own. This is perfectly easy, especially now you've find this site as you'll get lots of help should you decide to manage your own.

Thanks for that! Its a relief to know my bank acc won't be closed! Its sounds straight forward enough...i'm going to get in touch with cccs tomorrow and try and sort it all out. I'm just hoping all of my creditors agree to it!!

Alison Hi Tingy has given you very sound advice

I am with CCCS myself and have been for 4 years,I have a bank account, and like yourself need this facility, should you like what you see with CCCS pay them by Standing Order not Direct Debit.

They will try and negotiate 0% interest and based on your disposable income will allocate payments to each creditor,I have 6 creditors and all 6 agreed with CCCS and accepted the payments and the 0% interest although BC started charging low interest recently because I hit them with a largish PPI refund

Your creditors do not have to accept 0% or the payments offered but most will .

I would suggest you try them that is CCCS

Rather like Tingy states you can eventually run your own DMP, but having been with CCCS 1st it gives you a good grounding in how to proceed so your idea of going it on your own after 12 months is a good idea

I wish you all the best,if you need any help just shout

regards FS
