Great idea Mustard think there's going to be a lot of negative reports concerning

not only what they've done to all us students but how they conduct their unscrupulous businesses all over the world. I am collecting facts and articles that can help you and Fuzz with what you are doing and I'd ask anyone involved in this to do the same. Collect info and news articles and centralise them with the websites being set up to inform people what's going on.

Wee update..... no reply yet from the dispute letter. If they reply the same way they replied to the other letters by sending a demand for payment it will be immediately forwarded to the OFTand the FOS

I checked this link very interested, to find out which bank is "the best" to choose. And to be honest I cant see this table very useful for the reason, that number of complaints is not related to number of clients they have. We can see that Barclays and Lloyds are on top with almost 10k complaints, yeah, but if they have lets say 3 times more customers than other bank with 3k complaints, this next bank isnt any better though...

So I had a look at percent of casses resolved in favour of customer, and most banks of my interest are placed in 50-70% range (more of use in fact, showing where complaints where legitimate, more and less), and my conclusion is they all same offenders in fact...

So im staying with lloyds, just have more awareness of their ethics, or lack of it...

I'm not quite sure why reporting was brought - but the good news is that the FSA has used the data to bang all of the top banks over the head and has promised further enforcement on the two worst offenders - only downside was they were too chicken to name them.

Only time will tell as the latest complaint/resolved figures are up to end 2009.

The problem is I've been told I can take out a 1 yr interest free commercial loan with Barclays for £5,000 to pay the IT course fee for Advent Computer Training (see Google). However Barclays Business told me they were unaware of this loan & company so I'm now very dubious. how can I check if company is legit or if this is a [problem]? Citizens Advice couldn't help.

Hi Scooby, cheerz for reply. In answer yes I received a letter of acceptance 2 days after initial interview in Milton Keynes with 'student supervisor' in office block. She went through course details & kept going on about money I'd earn at the end of it- although I explained money was not why I wanted to do it. some answers to my questions were vague to say the least or just glossed over. I got the brochure you mentioned too. she then said about the commercial loan via Barclays as course would cost £5 grand over 20 months or so & we could arrange a 2nd meeting to apply for it. That was when I called bank & drew a blank. Have delayed my next meeting with her to try & find out more. I just don't want to take out a 5 grand loan unless I'm sure about the company& the qualification. thing is no-one seems to know one way or the other &I don't know anyone who's done this type of course. any suggestions on what to do next are most welcome mate.

hi i had my interview down by oxford street and he told me i could start the course and pay in 12mnths time. he said thats how all the british born students were doing it, as they get them a job after 3 months. i really dont knw what to do, i might go down to the bank and ask them not to allow any transactions for a month or so just while things progress. the funny thing is when i met them it all looked genuine and u were right they did keep going on about the money!!il keep you posted.

As you may, (or may not know), In December of last year several other companies were created and registered at Hagley Hall.

It would seem likely that it's one of these companies XYZ Ltd, using the trading style Advent Computer Training. (There is no requirement to register trading styles with Companies House anymore). The only comback would be if somebody was already using the name. I don't think it's likely that they would complain about themselves.

I cannot however see any circumstances however where Barclays would be providing finance.

Hi Cashins

That's what they're saying that they're being offered loans by Barclay's and you're right enough about the new company registered with Bulley Davey was Advent Computer Training so here come the next generation to find themselves in the predicament we are in now.

Or was it Advent Consulting Ltd.,

Hi Bleudo.

I have been searching back but can't find what Im lookig for.

What are the OFT guidelines regarding how businesses call customers to chase 'debt'?

I want to be fully armed for when the phone calls begin!

I've sent in the dispute letter and asked to be contacted by lettter only but it'll fall on deaf ears I suppose!

Thanks again man.

They are allowed 'reasonable' contact attempts.

And that does not include threats. They must be clear and consise,

If they say they will hand over to a dept collector - They must name the dept collector.[No tacky dept collection in the world will buy a dept for £5.000/£10.000]

BUT.....

When an account is in dispute they can not make demands or threats for payment. So if they do, complain in writing to all concerning bodies when they do.

Complaints = fines!

My Account went into dispute last week with BPF.

They have now changed their contact approach with me.

The Caller ID comes up as International...............

And yes i now have Indian call center bonus hunters ringing me up.

As someone bombed the Glasgow office of BPF?

The caller asked if could make a paymen of £5.00 today.

I said the account was in dispute and not to call.

He said BPF would not accept that an Account was in dispute.

So there you go - they think they are above the Law and governing

bodies guidlines.

Oh well another complaint to OFT.

The only reason they phone is they can then say things that they would never dare put in writing - DONT respond to them, either refuse to go through securtity and tell them to put it in writing - end of story.

Some will buy debts for £100 let alone thousands.

Thats it...

They can get back £100.00 plus costs and charges.

£10,000.00 through the courts, and if you are means tested could take years to get back, they are after a quick return.

Looks like they are already moving services out.

If you are not aware, the operation (or what will be left of it) is moving to Cardiff. The Glasgow office is closing and the greater majority of the 350 staff are getting the sack.
