Why does Natwest debit items due on Monday on a Saturday?

This leaves vulnerable people without cash over the weekend.

Why does Natwest debit items due on Monday on a Saturday?

This leaves vulnerable people without cash over the weekend.

Working days are Monday to Friday inclusive. For items due IN or OUT at the weekend many banks update their customer base during the weekend. NatWest do so overnight Friday so any monies due in Monday or going out on Monday will show on Saturday morning. It can be great if it goes in and not so great if it goes out.

Saturday and sunday are not working days, therefore the company claiming the Direct Debit put it in place on the Friday.(Monday starts at one minute past midnight) This means the money to pay the Direct Debit should be in the Bank ready. It will show as going out of the account over the weekend so the money cant be spent, this will avoid an unpaids fee.
