Re: Payday Loans -help needed today PLEASE

Hello my husband has a loan with poundstillpayday, which is due out of our account tomorrow, i can cancel the direct debit online, and NEED to cancel it as i will not have enough money for the mortgage if i pay this tomorrow, i had a loan for £400 but with the interest this will be £520 taken out in the morning, i am so scared of cancelling the direct debit though because of the phone calls and letters he is going to get, (i have changed the phone number today on their website to our old one which i know is not in use! but they prob still got the correct number stored somewhere!!) i am too late to try to ask them to accept reduced payments until cleared before it is due but what do you think i should do and what is the worst that can happen? any info most welcome PLEASE

I agree totally...cancel the DD with immediate effect & make the mortgage payment instead.

The most you will get off the other lot is threatograms which are not worth the paper they printed on quite frankly

hi thanks. i know that is the right thing to do but am so worried that they will pester my husband in work, he really not good with things like that and will be so embarrassed, he is delivery driver and will be told of phone calls i expect on his return by his boss??!! i have changed the phone numbers on their website today but wondered if they will have original numbers to try to call??

Just speak to your hubby later on or whenever - explain what you've had to do & for what reasons, tell him to have a look at this site if need be.....

If he does receive any phone calls in work just tell him that we on here have told him that he is under no obligation to speak to them & tell him to refuse to answer any of their security questions if/when they do ring - that way they wont be able to continue with the call.

Keeping a roof over your head is of far more importance than making any payments to a DCA.

hi its not with a dca yet, the payment is due in full via direct debit tomorrow, when hubbies wages go into our account, we have had this payday loan for months and months but have never been in a position not to reloan, this is the only way i can think of not paying them tomorrow by cancelling the direct debit today, just worried about the repercussions and the phone calls especially in work ones that hubbie might get, not fussed about home calls will ignore them

At worst you'll just get a load of huffing & puffing from the payday loan people & at very worst have it passed onto a DCA. (who will do sod all)

Keeping a roof over your head is of far more importance than keeping the payday loan people happy.

You'll just have to tell your hubby to deal with any calls in work as best he can or maybe get him to ask his collegues/boss to request that any calls for him are not to be forwarded onto him, by his request for the forseeable future?

They can add what they want.....but you are the boss of them, not the other way round - so what you offer to repay them is what they will accept in a like it or lump it sort of way.

So if you offer them £1 per month - it will just take longer if they do add charges to repay at that rate ;)

If cancelling a DD within 3 days of it due to be collected, the bank usually still sends the payment as DD's are requested/processed 3 days prior to the collection date. Ensure you phone your bank to confirm the direct debit is cancelled, don't just rely on the online service.

If the DD is collected then phone the bank straight away and request an indemnity claim under the direct debit guarantee, the bank has to refund you straight away and reclaim the money back from the originator.

Thanks

- Hobbie

Under no circumstances should you speak with a Debt Collections Agency via telephone, request that all future correspondence is done in writing, a letter template for this can be located here.

Any views expressed are solely that of my own, any advice or information offered is provided in genuine good faith, and should be checked prior to acting upon.

They use a company called Clarity to do their debt chasing, and Clarity have been in trouble over their aggressive tactics so they will write and write and bump up charges. Poundstillpay use Malta as their base but a lot of their operatives are in Canada or Ireland and don't care (or know) about British consumer law - they do huff and puff and threaten to send people round to collect their debt but they are not licensed bailiffs and they have no more rights than a pizza person. There is a letter in the templates you can send if they start threatening this.

ok thanks for that, direct debit cancelled so will wait and see what happens next, dreading it really if i am honest but have so many creditors at the moment, most we have dealt with and are fine about having reduced payments, but cannot expect everything to go smoothly, mortgage comes first.
