This is taken from a letter mjanet wrote to LTSB's Sols recently

'Finally I understand that your clients are closing the accounts of their customers who complain about their charges .What you may not know is that yesterday the FSA announced that it considered that this retaliatory action was discriminatory and that it was referring the matter of such closures to the banking code standards committee. The FSA also announced that it expected the banks not to become involved in this retaliatory closure and to uphold the standards of the banking code.

Let me warn you that if there is so much as a sniff of retaliatory action from your client that I will retaliate myself with a legal action which will embarrass them and which they will not forget'

Hi

This is great news ! I'm concerned as I'm having problems with MBNA Europe Bank. I can't find a link to that bank alone. I have a credit card with them which is at the limit and I'm claiming back charges. They have issued me with a letter saying I'm going against a contract. I am fighting back but am worried they close my account. Although I've told them I will close it myself when I pay it off but in the meantime I want my money back.

I thought it may be against the law as it was in retaliation.

I think that gernerally banks are starting to pay back charges with less hassel, but I think it may depend on the current state of your account.

I have just received my settlement in full from Lloyds TSB, there was no requirement for a account review and I removed the confidence condition in my settlement letter, I received payment within 48 hours of returning the settlement letter, however since I took a loan in Jan. to clear up a lot of my debts my account has been in the black ever since, this may be part of the reason.

Just my opinion!

Regards

Phil

MBNA said the same thing to me, then paid out and not a sniff of them withdrawing the card. Whilever you are keeping up payments they will not close the account. Why would they when they can continue charging you interest every month?
