I hope this is the right section! If not I apologise and could a mod kindly move it.

Basically I’ve recently bought an LCD TV from Comet. I opted to go with their Total Product Cover which I think is around ~£200. This will cover my TV for 3 years which I wanted. For the sake of £200 I’d rather be safe than sorry.

I read the front of the policy and it all seemed good – they will even cover accidental breakage. However, upon closer inspection on the rear of the insurance certificate it says that it does not cover against “neglect, misuse or abuse”. Now I find it quite a contradiction to covering “accidental breakage” – it even says covers against accidental breakage even if it is the consumer’s fault.

However, where would this stand me if the TV was accidentally dropped or pushed over? I’ve got a little brother and sister who love watching the TV and playing their Nintedo Wii on it. I’ve only had the TV a matter of 6-8 weeks but already had a few close calls already with it (Wii controller narrowly missed the panel).

Could anyone try to clear this up for me? Obviously I will look after the TV (It’s almost £1500!!!), but I don’t want to be left out of pocket if it was accidentally damaged by myself or my siblings.

Many thanks again in advance.

Neglect Misuse or abuse means that you knowingly damaged the product, or you used the product / let the product be used in a way that would cause damage, i.e putting a nail where the fuse should go, jumping on the TV when a goal is scored / the X Factor is on, etc.

If a controller from the Wii went through the screen it would be classed as AD, so dont worry!!

Abbey - owed £3260 - Paid up.

Barclays owed £2500 - Paid up.

Halifax, Mint & Egg - next on the hit list

Dont click on the scales - I'm quite proud of my little red dot! - As the little red dot has gone - click away!!!!

I took the total product cover out for my 50 inch plasma in Nov-2006. TV just started to play up last weekend. Won't come on. Broken! I rang up and arranged for a visit from engineer. I had to wait a week cos I work. Engineer came yesterday. Looked at tv. I showed him what was, or wasn't happening. He never touched it. Turned round and said it needs a software update he'd have to download. It'll be Tuesday till I get to arrange another appointment for a software update that aint gonna fix it. Then some other men in a big van will have to arrange a collection and ship it to repair centre. I'm wishing i'd have thrown Wii remote through it now, cos this is gonna take a long time methinks!
