Hi all,

A very good friend of mine picked this up from her mums & babies board, but basically there's a CTC relief payment of upto £1000 which was advertised a few years back but many people were unaware or didn't apply for it. You may still be entitled to it, but only have until 31 Jan 2009 to apply, here's the details, if you think you're entitled to it, print and fill in the form and post it to your tax office. Three conditions apply:

You may be eligible to claim the relief for 2002-03 if the following conditions apply:

  • you had a child born between 6 April 1986 and 5 April 2003
  • the child lived with you for all or part of 2002-03
  • you worked and paid tax for all or part of 2002-03

As a lot of people here have children over 6 years old, or even know of people with kids over 6 years of age, I thought I'd pass it on...hope it helps :-)

Here are some more details and the form required - act quickly!!!

SOME people may not have been a paid a Tax Credit (child based) for the period 2002/03.

If this doesn't apply to you, pass it on to anyone you know that it might apply to - there is a deadline!

If you had a child aged 16 or under (and living with you) as of April 6th 2003 AND if you meet the criteria below, you can generate a back-dated claim for £520 (or more in some cases).

The following conditions apply;

(a) The child (or children) were living with you for at least part of the tax year in which you wish to claim

(b) The child was born between April 6th 1985 and April 5th 2003

© The child was your own (including step or adopted) or was a child you looked after at your own expense (conditions apply bla bla bla)

You must also be able to answer YES to these questions;

Q1- Did you work and pay tax (or live with a partner who worked and paid tax) between April 2002 and April 2003?

Q2- Did the highest earner in the family earn £6,000+ in that tax year?

If you think that you might qualify AND believe that you did not receive the tax refund in that period (which was given as a reduced tax rate, NOT a lump sum payment) then you need to lodge a claim...

BEFORE 31st JANUARY !!!!!

otherwise you lose the entitlement. You may also have been due the same amount for the previous tax year, but if you didn't get a claim in then you've already lost entitlement to that year - and they wonder why we don't like 'em!

For some, there could be an additional payment. IF you had a child BORN between 6th April 2002 and 5th April 2003, an extra payment of £520 can be claimed, bringing you up to £1040

The quickest way to find out if were are entitled to this but didn't receive it, is to contact your local Tax Office. Have your NI number ready if you can, but they can track you with other personal details. You can find your nearest office through this link...

HM Revenue & Customs : Office Locator

If you need to make a claim, use the form here to apply for it - the reference number is "11ctc"

You will need a pdf viewer to open that link.

Good luck - act quickly..!
