Can O2 charge me for dd return?

Hi,

 

I have had a contract O2 phone since end last year. Always paid my bill on time. I pay it by monthly by direct debit.

 

Last month my bill was more than expected so when O2 tried to debit my account it was returned unpaid.

 

I now see on this months bill that O2 have charged me £4.25 and listed this charge as a direct debit penalty returned payment.

 

Can they do this? Please can someone advise? :-?

What does it say in your contract?

As the penalty is not very much, I suspect they can, as it is not disproportionate.

 

Not 100% sure tho!

Have you paid the outstanding amount? If you have, suggest giving them a call to discuss. As your near end of contract they may be able give a credit or something as goodwill.
