Hi there

Has the account been passed to a DCA? If so, you probably already have a default registered against you. If they are just threatening to send it to a DCA because you have missed one payment then you will be OK.

You will know that you have a default registered against you because they will send you a Default Notice that will give you 14 days to pay the total amount outstanding. Normally, if you get in touch and bring the account up to date this will not be issued. If you ignore it then it will go to the CRA as a default.

Hope this helps

Be careful though if you are in dispute with the Banks - HBoS issued a default to CRAs on my file while I'd been waiting to appear in court. Complained and a few days later got a nic letter from the Chief Exec's Office apologising for the ditress they'd caused me and guaranteeing removal of the default within 2 days (which has happened!).
