Hi I am claiming JSA and have been since January, I was in work up to claiming JSA.

I am due a tax rebate at the end of the tax year (this weekend) and I am finding conflicting info on who or when I should get my refund.

Will I get my refund automatically via the JSA route, or will I have to claim it via Revenue and Customs?

Hello there.

Just bumping your thread up the forum really, but I would have thought as HMRC is a separate department, a tax rebate might not involve the JSA people.

But I don't have experience of this, so hopefully someone who has will notice your thread and comment.

it has been a few years since i been in the same position, but how it used to work was: -

  1. if you signed off, the DWP would calculate and pay the refund when they issued the P45 (I once signed on for 5 days before getting job, and got a tax refund of 30p)
  2. if you continue signing on, then Inland Revenue (HMRC) would issue the refund around about June
