Hi guys. I have a laptop with a broken screen, and I need to recover personal stuff (photo's etc) from the old hard drive, and then transfer them to the new laptop. Can you tell me what the easiest way is please?

Thanks

Edited: on thinking about it again:

It depends how 'geek' you are and how much hardware fiddling you are happy with.

If the old laptop's issue is just a broken screen, do you have a monitor you could hook it up to?

You can still use it as a desktop with an external monitor.

Once you can use the monitor so you can "see what you are doing, onscreen" you can copy the files or use a data transfer cable to do the data transfer between the 2 laptops.

If you can't use the laptop with an external monitor, you will have to find a different way to access the old laptop's data:

MacBook? Set it in target disk mode, which won't rely on you needing a working screen on the old laptop.

Microsoft windows? Buy a SATA drive hub that can mount your old hard drive, and then connect the hub to your new laptop via USB.

Once you have sorted the current issue : think about a backups plan. I take it you don't currently have backups of the data, else you could just use those to put the data on the new laptop. Think about what if the hard drive had been lost / damaged / stolen rather than the screen damaged.

A "near miss" this time might be a prompt to thinking about a backups plan.

Thanks guys. I found an old Toshiba laptop and transferred the Hard Drives. All sorted now.

Thanks again.
