Long time no see

My son got involved with these damned payday loans & we are now trying to sort it all out.

He has written to all the companies cancelling the CPA & requesting their bank details so that he can pay by SO. He has opened a parachute account into which his wages will be going so at least they can't dip in whenever they wish.

He went to his Lloyds bank branch & they were spectacularly unhelpful but he did at least succeed in getting them to agree to report his debit card as lost.

It concerns me though that surely his new card will still be linked to his old card & that these companies still will have his bank account number & sort code. Can they still help themselves in the meantime ?

He needs to send the CPA cancellation to Lloyds but which address should he use ?

You dont need to send it to an address. Just take it to the nearest branch. By law they MUST accept it.

Any advice i give is my own and is based solely on personal experience. If in any doubt about a situation , please contact a certified legal representative or debt counsellor..

If they refuse, then he sits there until they comply. All they need to do is copy the letter, sign stamp and date both copies and give you one.

If the money still comes out, then formal complaints can be made and you can also take legal action to recover the money and get your bank account back to how it was before the debit happened. Banks will normally call your bluff, but as soon as the court papers hit the head office desk, that usually makes them sit up and follow the rules.

Unfortunately he can't get to the bank during it's opening hours so he has asked us to hand it in. At least that way they won't be able to deny it's receipt.

He has asked for written confirmation that the instruction has been actioned so we'll see.

Quick update & sorry it's taken so long (been away)

He went into his Lloyds branch during his lunchbreak & Lloyds did the usual 'oh we can't stop a CPA' so he put his letter on the desk & said 'oh yes you can - it's been law for years'

The desk clerk still insisted that he knew nothing about it but suggested that son report debit card as lost then ordered new one.

Son left letter with bank & said that he would be demanding a refund if Lloyds continued to make payments.

Roll on the next week - new bank card had arrived so he went to cashpoint to find that indeed Quick Quid had withdrawn funds but Lloyds had refunded his account - result !

Cash Genie have supplied their bank details (Sort code: 20 00 00 A/C No 13022625) so a letter telling them how much he is going to to pay & first payment has been made. He can't pay any more & I can't see any judge looking kindly upon them should they attempt to take legal action. To be fair, he only owes them £240 so I doubt CG would take legal action but one never knows.

Quick Quid have ignored his request for their bank details & have issued a legally compliant default notice.

He has cleared his Wonga balance so 1 down, 2 to go....
