Hi, I own a lancia y 1.2 3doors LHD that I bought new in 1999, in 2007 I brought it to the U.K and it wasn't easy but I registered it here. By that time I had to do an insurance by chassis number, again, it wasn't easy but I found 1 company that would do it. Unfortunately due a change of address and an expired credit card that company wasn't able to get me to renew my credit card details so they cancelled my insurance.

Since last september my car is stopped (SORN) because I can't find any company that would give me a quote for the simple reason that the model of the car doesn't come up in any U.K insurance's database, yes it sounds unbelievable and makes me wonder if I'm really living in London on the XXI century but hell yes we live in that era where if it's not on the system we get a "sorry there isn't anything else that I can do for you".

Anyhow could someone tell me if is there anyway that the model Y from lancia could make it on U.K insurance's databases? I would love to know what else I can do to address this issue and where.

Lancia havn't imported into the UK since the late 80's. Only just started again under the guise of Chrysler.

Unfortunately no. My car is not working now due to being stopped in the parking lot since. I think I'm now ready to get rid of it... Shame that I was allowed to register the car here and this happened, I can only drive left hand drive cars and this situation puts me completely off to take the risk of getting another one.

Well... This is UK in the European Community in 2013...

Would you swap with an RHD (out of curiosity)

 

No, I can only drive LHD and I know it's not easy to understand but I have a disability, so I drive with my hands and for that I use an adaptation. It would be the same as if you were to drive a car with the accelerator and brake pedals in the opposite sides. Your feet gain a sensibility and a kind of "memory"... If that makes any sense to you...

Hi, hope I am not too late to help. I also own a 1999 Ypsilon. I insure it with a specialist broker called Brentacre in Swansea, look them up on Google. I live in Walthamstow and know a good garage for MOTs etc.

 

Hi, unfortunately you are late as I already sent my car to the scrap yard... It's a shame but after three years of agony I no longer could handle the situation and it was time for me to let go... Anyway, thanks for your reply.

If it helps (anyone else), my neighbour had a similar problem with a scooter that he bought in France, for use in this country (it is not one that reaches these shores as the manufacturer does not believe there is a viable market as yet for this particular model).

The chassis number did not come up under any search in order to gain the correct documentation for insurance, despite him having a full written receipt of purchase from the previous owner, plus the handbook, specification journal and advertising blurb from the Dutch importer. But our local bike dealer was able to get a commission notice, re-register it for about sixty pounds, and he now rides it on a Q-plate.
