I Owed wonga 1123pound today consisting of 850 loan and interest which I knew I would struggle to pay. I emailed their customer care explaining and offered to pay over 6 months. I got a reply 20 mins later thanking me for getting in touch and they accepted my repayment plan which had been set up for me to view online. They were very helpful and i only wish i hadcontacted them earlier rather thanpaying interest by deferring for last few months.Wouldhave saved me a lot of worry.

Hi MRHBK,

I am glad you got something sorted out with Wonga, touch wood I have found them relatively easy to set a plan up with, if only some of the other companies could take a leaf out of their book. I cannot understand these PDL companies who refuse payment plans and would rather receive nothing from us instead of what we can afford. All the best with everything.

I have to say that when i defaulted and was in a right state wonga was very supportive and set a plan up straight away and sent me an email to check if i was ok. Im out of my payday loan trap now and trust me i had them all accept text loans and micro credit. It was a horrid battle but credit where due as wonga did show care and understanding. Glad you got it sorted MR H, sometimes we just got to face the fear and do it like you have. Do you have any others or just wonga to sort ?

I am trying to set up a repayment plan, I borrowed £400 before Christmas, having previously borrowed £100 from them and paid off in full on the agreed date. I rolled the new £400 loan over as I couldn't afford it, and have now reached the end of my extensions. I wish I had known they were limited, but I just couldn't afford the £560 they wanted back all in one go.

I intended to pay off around £200 for the next 3-4 months, and now I'm stuffed as they want the full amount next month.

I have emailed them as I noticed this in their code of practice:-

'We will freeze interest at the earliest possible stage – if a reasonable repayment plan can be

agreed'

and I just hope they stick by their word.

Do you think they'll help? All your comments seem so positive, I just hope I can add a new positive one in my next post!

Fingers crossed.

How did you get on Wessexgirl1986? I have emailed them today for the 2nd time, after they initially sent me back a generic email saying they wouldn't do anything until I had defaulted on my loan....

Read the quoted part of the code of practice carefully. It is very vague.

I had to 'default' on my loan. They sent me the generic email you have mentioned 3 times, after the 3rd time i was so annoyed I rang them up.

The woman on the other end of the line was clearly from a foreign call centre as there was a delay on all I said, plus she didnt't understand my argument. she just kept repeating that 'the system wouldnt allow repayments plans to be set up unless a loan had 'defaulted', and the 'they were kindly allowing me the opportunity to stick to the original agreement.' I felt she was reading from a sheet of answers and not actually listening.

Luckily, I got paid two days earlier then planned, and emptied my account, as Wonga told me they would try for collection from 5am on my repayment day, trying to gain smaller increments to recover as much cost as they could, every hour on the hour.

I called them just as their lines opened and the lady said 'yes, your playment plan has been set up', and after 2 minutes on the phone i received an email with my payment schedule on it. I'm paying back just over £50 a month.

I have to say the speed at whoch they emailed it out to me made me rhink they'd had it all ready to be put in place since I first emailed.

Hmm...

100% yes. Whenever you make an agreement with a PDL, always communicate in writing. NEVER use the phone. They can say anything on the phone, then backtrack on it as theyve done thousands of times before. If you have a full acceptance and agreement in writing, should they try and break it by taking an extra amount out, or debit the account on another day, then they can be prosecuted for theft, as well as being reported to the OFT and FOS.

Just keep an eye on every transaction, and if you notice something different, report it immediately.

I set up a repayment plan both through the phone and through email and they have stuck to their word for the past two months, they were great and very helpful.. i would advise anyone in trouble with this company to get in contact with them as soon as possible as they are one of the best for helping with repayment plans and give the confidence to set up payment plans with other companies. the above reply's are right though.. make sure you have something in writing or email as they are a PDL at the end of the day.

Hi I have set up a repayment with Wonga they were pretty easy to deal with emailed them but I NEVER phoned them so I have it all in writing.

Just one question they have sent me there bank details and are asking me to pay the money directly to them is this ok to do (I think they mean pay it in at a HSBC bank) rather than set up a standing order.

How is anyone else paying them ???

Hi everyone,

Just an update on my Wonga situation. They are being fantastic I have to say, I'm quite suprised but it's such a weight off my shoulders. Having dealt with them I also found the courage to approach Wage Day Advance, who were always good to me before with customer care issues. (They have a sort of 'family' feel to them if you know what I mean, they are based in Yorkshire and everyone I've dealt with has actually been in Yorkshire and not some far off exotic call centre.)

Wage Day Advance have set up a repayment plan no bother, their website has lots of scary info about what happens when you default, but to be honest they were really good about it and the bark was much worse than the bite!

I have made sure both companies have corresponded by email, and have hard copies of the repayment schedules so that neither company can back track out of anything.

I really wanted to say this:-

This forum gave me the courage to set up these repayment plans. I was so naive before, I didn't even realise you could do it. Cue months of worry, extensions, roll-overs and mounting interest.

If you are in a similar situation DON'T PANIC. Help is available. Do as much reseach as you can using this forum, and appoach the company armed with a thorough knowledge of your rights.

Please please please don't spend time worrying, and if you can't afford the roll-over fees, don't pay them. Set up a repayment plan instead, as your problem won't go away and your debt will increase.

Once my 10 month repayments are dealt with, I will be free from the Payday Loan trap. If you are reading this and thinking about getting one - don't if you can at all avoid it. What starts as £100 can very VERY quickly become your entire monthly wage.

Thank you to those who have posted on here previously about repayment plans, you have really helped me change my life around - corny, but true never the less!

xx

This has made me feel so much better reading this on here.....after being paid today and after paying off the interest only on 7 payday loans I am left with very little....again. I've been feeling sick all morning and cannot see an end in sight. I;m on my last rollover with quickquid and Wonga and the thought of May wages going in is already scaring the hell out of me. This has given me hope and I will begin working out a plan later today. Thank you all for posting to help others

Can anyone tell me if it is safe to set up a payment straight from your bank account (like this faster payment banking) to the pdl if it is safe as you only use a reference number ?

ONLY if its a standing order. Then you are still in full control of your money.

Hi MRHBK. I am in EXACTLY the same position as you with PD loans. I know that if I can set up a repayment plan with Wonga (which is the biggest) I can pay my others off withing a few months. I was just wondering how you worded you e-mail to ask for a repayment plan and also which email address did you send it to? Any advice you could give me would be much appreciated. My balance is currently 1137 and am due to repay on 18th June (by then it will have escalated to over £1400!) I am so pleased you have got your situation sorted and hope I can do the same and stop worrying! Once I have paid everything off I am NEVER getting a PD loan ever again!!! not even for a fiver! Hope you can help.

:-)
