Hi All

Got a strange one, my father was handed a letter this morning by the postman who said 'I know its the wrong address but thats you isnt it?, and it was his name on the letter, but wrong address & postcode. correct street yes but wrong number (by 200) and wrong postcode.

He opened it to find it was a parking fine from over a year ago, saying as he failed to appear in court the bailiffs would be round soon, now hes really worried as this is the first hes heard of it.

It is for his car as it has his registration but wrong house number and postcode this is the first we have heard and they want £130ish what should we do? Ignore it as they have the wrong address or fess up and hope they will take the original fine?

who is the ticket from the police or a traffic warden?if the wrong address is on the letter then maybe you can some how find a way to get this stopped for a short while so that things can be looked at as to why you did no reply in the beginning.

do not give up hope as there are people on here that will help you sort this out.

"saying as he failed to appear in court" that doesn't happen with decriminalised council parking. though some are still using RTA 1984. we need more details. sounds like an OOT is needed ASAP. meanwhile do not open to door to any bailiff that turns up over the weekend - no matter what they say. keep car(s) locked in garage. and look up posts on here by tomtubby.

Hi Thanks for the quick replys, he's bringing the letter round today so i can have a good look at it 6 pages long apparently. In our area last year the council started using them smartcars with the cctv cameras on top, he does remember it now he stopped on a single yellow while he popped into the chemist for 4 mins he thought you could stop on single yellows, I have told him only during the out of hours times etc etc so yes he is in the wrong. He said the letters from the council the worry is if we stay quiet and they eventually find his right address they might sieze the car. Ill update later when i see the letter, im thinking i should contact the council and offer to pay the original fine...
