Pc World Business help needed

I bought a sony laptop from pc world business on 14.3.2008 for £813.47, the laptop now will not switch on. I have contacted pc world and they told me that they are not responsible under the sale of goods act as they are a reseller.

 

Can some help with who i should write to regarding the failure of the laptop.

This is what it says in their T&Cs

 

21. We are resellers to business customers and as permitted under the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 we exclude liability for claims regarding the quality or fitness for purpose of goods or otherwise which consumers can make under the Sale of Goods Act 1979. We are liable for death or personal injury caused by our negligence. We do not accept any liability for indirect or consequential losses or loss of profits.

 

 

If this is legal (I don't know) then I think you need to contact the maufacturer.

Sony are only authorised to deal with the warranty repairs on this laptop.

 

PcWorld can only repair if you have an extended warranty agreement in place.

As far as I was aware, those terms in business-to-business T&Cs are widely considered to be unenforceable, as there has to be just cause as to why it is reasonable to exclude SoGA. In some business cases this would be entirely valid - say an engineering company supplying specialist tooling to a factory. I can't see how it could ever be justified for a simple retail sale.

 

Either way, March 2008 is going back too far to argue the case. If you want to reply or PM me with more details of the fault, I'll happily try and advise on a technical basis.

If you are still having problems with your machine, let me know the model details and the fault and I will try to help, have been repairing It equipment for many manufactures for too numerous years.

Pc world are not the best company to deal with !
