Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but if anyone can offer any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

I have been a council tenant for 13 years, I would like to take advantage of the councils Cash Incentive Scheme. I am entitled to do that however, 21 months ago I declared myself bankrupt after a failed business and substantial debts. I have since met with a mortgage adviser who has been unable to attain any kind of mortgage for me, as I was only discharged 9 months ago, even though I have had no missed payments or credit issues, since the bankruptcy.

I got married in June of last year, and have not yet put my husband on the tenancy, the mortgage adviser has advised me that is better for him to apply for the mortgage on his own, as he has good credit.

I am entitled to £23,000 on the cash incentive scheme, but I can only apply if I have a mortgage agreed and providing I have been a public sector tenant for more than 2 years. So basically although I qualify as I have been tenant for many years, I will not be able to get a mortgage. My husband will be able to get a mortgage, but he has only lived with me for 17 months and is not on the tenancy. And I believe that the person who applies for the Cash Incentive must be the person who is applying for the mortgage.

What I would like to know, is that if I put my husband on the tenancy as a joint tenant, when will his tenancy take affect, will it be from the time his name is entered on the tenancy or from the date I signed my tenancy agreement?

Any advice on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance
