Urgent Help Needed-council Tax

hello,

 

this is my first post and i hope someone can help me.

 

I was working in manchester a while back and now im being chased for council tax thats owed for that flat.

 

I now live in paisley as i have moved home and have received a sheriff officer letter stating they would come and break in to my door to get goods to the value of the debt. im not even sure if they can do that at all!

 

Im so worried can anyone help me write a letter to them to clear this matter up please.

I am bumping you to the top of the queue as I don't know if the laws are different in Scotland to England.

 

If you were still in England my advice would be

 

NEVER open your door to a bailiff

NEVER sign a letter you send to a bailiff

NEVER ring a bailiff - always deal with them in writing.

 

Have you contacted the council in Manchester to see if you can sort something out with them?

 

Somebody who knows Scottish Law will probably be along soon to advise you.

they said its now passed on to the sheriff officers/debt collecters.

Ok, hopefully somebody will correct me if I am wrong .

 

Firstly, they CANNOT enter your home and take your belongings without a walking possesion order. To get the WPO you would have to let them into your home, so they can take an inventory or your things. So if you have not let them in, then they cannot come in.

How much council tax do you owe? Are you in a position to pay the council what they want?

 

I will keep looking at your thread and bumping it up until somebody gives you some solid advice, I will also see if any of the people who advised me are on and ask them to help you out.

what are the fees that they can charge? they have pushed a notice through the door with what they say is owed on back dated council tax and fees of

court fees of £110

registration fees of £50.10

agents fees of £10.00

 

are these fees right?
