When I start up my PC, if I leave it too long at the log on screen it takes ages to load the desktop and allow me net access.

I've looked at the task manager and it seems to be scvhost.exe that is using massive amounts of cpu time, sometimes 100%, and the longer I leave it the worse it gets.

Anyone got any thoughts as I have better things to do with my time than waiting for my PC to behave:eek:

Do you mean svchost.exe?

If so, it's part of Windows & therefore not easy to assess which process is causing you the probs. I had a similar prob. after a Windows update last year, just removed the update & no probs!

However it could be 'cos you've not updated recently. Have you? And I guess you've also tried a virus & spyware scan?

are you running norton by any chance?>

Norton def. uses this command file & I have had probs. with Norton & this too.

If you are with Norton, my 'cure' was to do a Live Update with Norton, scan etc, reboot. Sometimes Live Update doesn't always complete properly (although it says it's finished!) but you can use the online 'help' to identitfy which fix to download, then rerun LU etc. Pain in the *** Grrrr
