Hi there,

Well done to those of you who've had their claims settled!!!!

I wrote to Halifax a month ago explaining I was in severe hardship and asking them if they could re-assess my case but I ve heard nothing back-do you think I should wait or should I contact them again?

Hi louloubella73,

Do what I did ring them every day make it perfectly clear you are "Suffering Severe Financial Hardship" and that you are in complete dire straits ie: Bank is ringing about mortgage arrears(if any) just make it plain that you do not have anything to "Rub Together".

Speak to the customer service team, when I rang they refused to do anything until I asked to speak to someone with a modicum of sense in the Customer Service Dept.

Do not be fobbed off just keep ringing and pleading.

Good Luck.

Did you send to them your income and expenses schedule, your revised charges and interest, all evidences of your hardship and a nice letter explaining all your circumstances and the reasons that you fall inder the FSA financial hardship waiver rules.

If you have then as Behind.... says, keep phoning. If on the other hand you have not yet you need to get this together as soon as possible. I found that Halifax dealt with mine quite quickly.

Halifax have now agreed mine on 100% of the charges only, but as only one of mine fell into the 6 year period, the rest 17 years worth are subject to the limitations act. I am getting some help with this and I am presently preparing my POC now, as they have already agreed to 100% of the charges in my case and they have also confirmed I am suffering financial hardship.

Good luck, if you need any further assistance just shout.

Hi again

Thanks for those replies.

I ve sent the income/expenditure forms and a letter, but haven t sent a revised charges amount. I will try to ring them-does anyone have a number that will get me straight through? all i ve got is the 08457 one which costs a fortune.

I m still surprised to have heard nothing at all though-I know they ve received it as they returned some original docs/letters that I sent them.

Look up that 0845 number on saynoto0870.com to see if there is an alternative listed.

Hiya, this site has been fab so far for me!!:D

I am currently making a claim under financial hardship, being on income support and a single mum I am really struggling at the moment and dreading christmas!!

I sent my form off (well 2 forms because they apparently "didn't receive the first one" with my outgoings and incomings, this was 2 months ago, I rang up to see where my claim was up to and it still hasn't been dealt with. Is there any way I could perhaps speed things up or are they within their right to leave it so long?

Thanks again, will definitely be making a donation once I get my flipping money!! x x

Hi Sarahlou,

They are supposed to reply within 40 days. I would write again and tell them they need to respond in the next seven days or they are breaking the OFT guidelines. They do seem to be one of the best for dealing with hardship, so give them one last chance before we report them or think about court.

Hi Sarah

Apart from writing again, have you tried ringing them again, others have done so and this may speed things along. There really is no hard and fast rule and all the banks have their owns systems in place.

You could also take this up with the chief exec officer.........they are normally pretty efficient for getting action in cases such as these.

Good Luck

  • 3 weeks later...

hii, Halifax have offered to give me £372!! I think it may be more they owe but I'm not complaining!!

I was wondering, how long between sending the letter back to accept their amount to the account being credited with the money they owe??

Also, the letter stated that the money must be used to bring my overdraft upto its limit type thing, was wondering, will they take my overdraft facility off me?? I'm sort of relying on some of this money for xmas so I really hope this is not the case!!

Thanks so much again, Sarahx

Hiya Sarah,

CONGRATULATIONS....:D

It can take up to 2 weeks for the money to appear, but just keep checking.

As for the overdraft, all banks can withdraw them at any time, but the chances are yours will be fine. Let us know when you get your money. :D

Well done Sarah, let us know when the money arrives!

Did you phone them or did they just write and did they just give you the return of your all charges without interest!

Tuttsi xx

I originally wrote to them using a hardship template from this site, after hearing I could claim through hardship. I then had to fill out one of those incoming and outgoing money things (sorry can't remember the name of them!!!)

Then I rang in Nov to see where my claim was upto, they had received my money form thing but it hadn't been looked at since it arrived in Sep. I then phoned them every week for about 3 weeks to see where my claim was up to and telling them it shouldn't be taking so long etc. and finally I phone on Tues last week and a letter had been sent out that same day offering £372! I think they may owe about this give or take £20, my claim didn't include interest because the charges always came out the day they said they would so no interest built up (if that's right anyway!)

I signed the return slip on Thursday morning accepting my offer and I'm just waiting for them to put it in my bank!! It does say it can take upto 14 working days but I'm really hoping it isn't the case. I phoned again today to make sure they had received my acceptance slip and he said that the put the monies into the accounts in date order. I will be phoning again on Thursday, just to be annoying!!! hahaha

Sorry this was a long post, I wanted to show people how it had worked for me and the whole process. I advise everyone to basically phone up at least once a week else they will "forget" you!!!

Good Luck everyone, will let you all know when I receive it!! Thanks again x x x:D

Argh mine's only a really small amount in comparison to most people on here!! hehe

You're welcome Tuttsi!

I phoned again today!!!haha

The woman said "you were told only yesterday that it can take upto 14 working days for the money to enter your account" I didn't know what to say!!! I just asked why it took so long. It's annoying me now, think I have waited enough!

I am relying on that money for most of my daughters xmas presents and have't got long left at all!! I know I shouldn't rely on it but would also like to treat myself for the first time in god knows how long.

Is there anyone who could give me a time scale from their own experience??

Good Luck again and keep us posted

Sarahx
