I work for a small family company and have been working here for nearly twenty years, about a month ago i fell over and shattered the bones in my arm. I have had an operation and have had metal plates inserted.

Am now back at work and my employer has given me statuary sick pay, given my loyalty to the company i was expecting to still be on full pay.

Included in my wage pack was a copy of an email between my boss and the acccounts manager confirming how i was going to be paid.

I think what has upset me more is that in the whole time i was off my boss never told me i was not on full pay.

Can anyone please help and confirm whether my boss has to tell me i will not be on full pay...

much appreciated.......

My employer offers no sickness pay scheme and in my contract it makes no reference to sickness whatsoever.

I'm amazed that my employer did noy make me aware that i would not be on full pay.

That would have left me no choice to check out of hospital and work.

If your contract had said you'd be on full pay and then they didn't pay you that, you'd have grounds to complain, but since it doesn't say that in your contract, and seemingly the subject never got raised, why on earth did you assume you would get full pay?

I'm sorry, but unless the contract specifically gives you better conditions than SSP, then SSP is what you'll get.

Unfortunately I have to agree - where there is no formal sick pay scheme in place and stated in your contract, then SSP is what will be paid. Having worked there for 20 years, has this subject never come up before?

You could of course talk to your boss and appeal to his better nature.

Kind Regards
