I have recently noticed , that barclaycard used to allow you to go over your credit card limit by a small amount say £50..... this would obviously trigger a charge of £20 now £12.... they now do not allow payments to go over limit..... does this not prove they have always been able to do this and that by allowing people to just go over has made them billions.... I am personally glad that I am not allowed to go over limit.... this for me is responsible lending and will save consumers billions....anyone else noticed this....

Only direct action by the masses will work....

Look at all successes they have never come from negotiation!!!

Personally I think this is a good thing, I don't want to be allowed to go over the limit and then be charged. If my purse is empty I can't spend! A credit card and bank account should be the same. It always used to be this way and then all of a sudden they realised the money they could make.....

I believe many CCard Co.s are tightening their lending criteria and reducing limits, especially for cash withdrawals.

It has to be good if it's part of a more responsible lending regime.

However, they're doing it to some peeps with very litle notice, leaving them a bit high and dry.

We could do with some help from you

My wife recently noticed this. What they have done is implement a upto 97% of your limit spending power. IE if you have a £2,500 limit, you can only go up to £2,425. They did not tell her this. She went to but a birthday present for £30, and was declined, she only found out after getting on the phone to B/Card.

If they change things they should give you a resonable notice. I certainly don't agree with what Egg have done though!!!!

I had the same chat on the phone with Capital One about 97% of the spending power. I was told by a lady when I phoned up to discuss my direct debit that I shouldn't be spending right up to my limit she recommeded keeping 5% under the limit!
