have just found this site and would like to say its fantastic, being to busy in life am useless with money and am getting charged constantly. after having an operation in february and direct debits not going out i tried to get an overdraft, they wouldnt give me one so it just got worse.

It's the one I used. You are asking for a list of transactions, some people have found their banks want to charge for statements, banks have to supply the information about charges to you.

I told them to take it from my account, they took £5 which I understand others have been charged also. I do not have my list of charges yet. It seems to vary. I think you should send by whatever means £10 and if they only charge £5 then ok.

is 40 days a bit long to wait or should i reduce it to 14 days

I dont think you can reduce it. I'm pretty sure they are legally entitled to 40 days under the DPA. But you can remind them when it gets to 7 days left for them to comply.

 

They might respond very quickly anyway, some people have had their info in just a few days while others have had to wait to almost the end of the time allowed. I think you are better to follow the procedure because you need to keep in mind that it could come to court and you will want to have followed the process properly.
