I've just received a letter from Danials Silverman Ltd about a debt I have with Career Development Finance (skillstrain).

CDF have passed the original debt of £1600.00 onto DSLtd who have now added a further £410.00 collection charge and £89.00 VAT on to the total Making it just over £2100.

I am not disputing the original debt but i am wanting to dispute the £500 collection charge added by Daniels Silverman.

What should my next step be?

Any help appreciated.

there is no legal remit for any fake solicitor or DCA to add any charges for collection

i suggest you type skillstrain in our search top right

some suprises there for you i feel

dx

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

This is covered in the OFT's Debt Collection Guidance.

The only way that a DCA can add collection charges is if (which is very unlikely) the charge meets all these criteria:

- there is specific contractual provision for such charges

- the contract specifically sets out the amount of such charges

- the charges represent the actual costs incurred

This is reminiscent of the 'File Referral Fee' that Amex and their DCAs used to add - until the OFT stopped them.
