Hi guys,

Just wanted to post my first thread and say hi as a new member of this forum, and hoped someone out there could maybe help me with a couple of questions.

As the title suggests I'm about to take on the Halifax and LTSB in order to reclaim bank account charges. I have received statements from the Halifax and have gone through them all and listed all of the charges. I noticed however on the step by step guide something about a letter that you should send requesting a list of charges?

Q1 - Do I still need to send this initial letter requesting information, or can I use the information gained from the statements??

I've read a bit about 8% interest.

Q2 - What does this refer to exactly?

Q3 - Do I have to send all of my letters by recorded delivery?

And finally, I would really appreciate advice from anyone who has dealt with the Halifax and LTSB thus far and to know how you got on with them. I.E. did you get your money back and how difficult/easy was it dealing with them? :|

Thanks!!

Bmum

Hi, and welcome.

You only need to send a subject access request to get your charging history, if you do not know it. You have your statements, so you can get this information from them. Be advised you can claim back up to six years though, so if your statements are incomplete, it may be worth send it.

The 8% interest is not applicably until you file your claim with the courts. Under Section 69 of the County Courts Act you can claim statutory 8% interest. This isn't an issue until you file your claim, so leave all reference out to it at the moment.

You don't have to send your letters recorded (I didn't with any of mine), but for peace of mind and assurance they've received them, its advisable too.

Have a good read through the FAQs and Step by Step Instructions for clarification.

Good Luck

Hi. I have just settled with the Halifax yesterday. It took 19 days from start to settlement! I had all my statements online so I didnt need to request them.

23rd Feb - Prelim letter sent - standard reply

7th March - LBA sent in response to standard reply

14th March - 1st telephone call from Halifax to inform me that it is being dealt with and hope to call back later with an update. 2nd Call 1 hr later to make initial offer, declined and insisted on full amount (politely), 2mins later full amount offered and accepted! Easy peasy! £2298!! THANKYOU

Halifax Card Services settled my claim just after the LBA deadline. Some people however have to prepare their court bundles before receiving settlement.
