I beleive I must have received a court summons because of council tax arrears. The local authority then got a Magistrates Court to issue a liability order.

I now have a deduction of my wages through an attachment to earnings. All that is fine I guess, I cant remember recieving anything about a court summons though.

My question is will this have resulted in a CCJ on my credit file?

If you pay Council Tax arrears all is forgotten. If you don't, you go to jail and THEN have to pay them. Plus costs. Plus any fines.

Only in England and Wales, I would imagine Edinburgh Kev is in Scotland where jail is not an enforcement option. I'm not sure on the current status of Warrant Sales but believe they are still enforceable for non-payment of Council Tax in Scotland (but not much else).

As to your question about issuing a Decree, Kev, they don't need to, they have statuatory powers which effectively makes the Default Notice the same as a Sheriff's Decree without needing the court to approve it.

Regards,

Eduin
