This is a discussion i'm having with them at the moment. Although their advertising states:-

up to 8mb.

Their terms and conditions clearly state that they will provide me with the fastest connection available on my line. According to BT this is 6.5mb, (and has been since before I joined), but Orange want me to renew my contract before they'll upgrade me to this speed.

I'd rather eat my own eyeballs.

This is their reply:-

Dear , (I haven't deleted the name here, it was just blank)

Thank you for your email.

When the highest speed is available in your area then that will be

upgraded automatically. However, if you request your self on the member

centre it will automatically will register you for a new 12 months

contract.

If you have any further queries then please do not hesitate to get in

contact with us again.

Kind Regards

Now it doesn't take a genius to spot a couple of glaring holes in this, and, since i'm not a genius, that's exactly what I did:-

Hi ,

I thought this might be the case.

However, my line has supported 6.5mb since the 21st of March 2006. I joined

Orange in May 2006, some 2 months later. Therefore, why was I not given this

speed from the outset, or at the very least, when Orange rolled out ADSL

Max?

Further, if I would be upgraded automatically when my line could support a

higher speed, (which we've established I haven't been), why is there any

need for the member centre option at all?

So my question still stands. As you are contracted to provide me with

fastest speed my line can support and for the last 10 months my line has

supported 6.5Mb/s, why is it now necessary for me to sign a new 12 month

contract in order for you to finally supply the service I should have

recieved in the first place?

I look forward to your reply.

Will keep you posted.

  • 2 weeks later...

you have had the exact same conversation with orange as us, only we had worse.

We have had the whole 18 month contract money taken from our debt card, from the card details that we gave them to take the missing 2 payments.

This was done without our permission, we have written to orange and ofcom with no satisfactory responce.

we cannot believe that this service goes on in our Country and its aloud to be got away with.

Can anyone help?????

cheers
