I bought an audi TT a couple of weeks ago.......I love the car......I was told by the dealer to me and my wife that the Cambelt had been changed......this was indicated in the service book to.......so I rang the dealer which was shown in the service book they are part of the VW group namely Seat.......when I quizzed them over the service stamp, yes they could find the car and customer........but no record of any servicing? And especially no cam belt change........I rang a very good quality Audi specialist...and they quoted £550 to complete the work........do I have any rights here at all ?

Thanks for all kind replies

Possibly and possibly not. If your supplying dealer is not VAG affiliated then how would they have any inkling the service book was not a true reflection of what had actually happened in its service life. Further you might not be entitled to data held by the dealerships you have rung. Think you might be on dodgy ground with this one as you would have to prove your supplying dealer knew the records are allegedly false.

Hi Yes I did wonder....and to be fair to the dealer he wouldn't know either really I suppose.......he did say confidently to us that the cam belt had been changed but I guess he was reading the same info as me from the servicing booklet..........so the liability then must lie with the Franchised dealer who's dealership stamp is in the booklet indicating that the work has been carried out by them ???

That is a possibility but to prove it would cost a lot more than the cost of just replacing it anyway. If for example the cam belt change was part of a routine service then it won't necessarily show on the service records as would be a normal operation. You would need access to the actual invoices to prove it.

Further it is highly unlikely that an authorised dealer stamped the book as being changed and it had not.

I did say 'relatively' as not all cars are just the removal of the cover, but there is no real difficulty in looking to see if the tensioner etc are new or the belt.
