My son was put forward for a job by the Work Programme.

Fortunately, being desperate to get a job he had the presence of mind to ask at the induction for a contact number. This he was given and a time to call. The good news is, he got the job and so far is enjoying it.

However, he discovered that his "advisor" from the Work Programme was supposed to have contacted him with a start date. This they did not do and there is no record on his mobile phone or the landline (which stores every incoming phone number up to 100) of anyone from the Work Programme contacting him. There was no e-mail either. The Work Programme have all this information.

This is down to one person whom my son has never liked (or trusted).

It transpires that he wasn't the only one this happened to. Two of his colleagues, all from the Work Programme with the same "advisor" had the same happen to them, so to anyone on the Work Programme, if they put you forward for a job please make sure you get a contact name and number at the company you go for interview/induction with. Do not leave it to the Work Programme to contact you.

My son and his colleagues are so incensed by this, that this incompetence could have lost them the chance of a job, that they want to lodge a formal complaint. Does anyone have any idea who to complain to or how to go about it?

Many thanks.

The first port of call in making a complaint is the provider - Your son should have been provided with the proper complaints procedure. The next stage in the chain is to lodge a complaint with the JCP/DWP. Should that fail to elicit a satisfactory response, then the Independent Complaints Examiner would be next - However, the I.C.E. will not investigate a complaint until the provider/DWP stages have been exhausted.

If he hasn't been provided with a copy of the complaints process, then that is grounds for another complaint sent to the DWP. See: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/274354/wp-pg-chapter-16.pdf for an overview of the process.

You can, at any stage, involve your MP and perhaps contact Margaret Hodge MP (she is a fierce critic of the DWP).

Thanks for that. Give him something to work with.

Personally, I think the whole Work Programme is one, big shambles and a serious waste of taxpayers' money.

He was put forward for a couple of other jobs at the same time and, guess what - he hasn't heard a cheep from any of them. Makes you wonder if he was ever put forward for these jobs or not.

this is exactly why i withdrew my consent, WP providers cannot be trusted and i think its only a matter of time before the whole thing falls apart. WP advisors are ignorant arrogant rude and generally not very helpful.

i have even known advisors to think they are doctors and try to diagnose job seekers with things such as OCD.
