Cycling at night time these days we have a majority of cars and some cyclists themselves with ridiculously bright head lights. This problem is magnified when on a road with no streetlights. Does anyone have a solution for this? The only two things I can think of are sunglasses or bright lights on the bike.

I don't know what the answer is, but I agree, it is a problem.

It used to be necessary to paint headlights yellow before driving on the continent, supposedly to reduce dazzle. You sometimes see glasses for cycling and other sports that have a light yellow tint. I might be making a false connection but possibly worth a go? Unfortunately there's not much to be done about the offending cars!

I wonder if the very bright lights are Xenon lights which are brighter in appearance (its a different light type) which are becoming more common and the difference is noticeable to me as a driver. As these are virtually all factory fit then they will be legal and it may be a case of having to adjust to them over time.

I have never seen a cyclist with lights too bright - they need bright lights to be seen - but what I don't like are those flashing lights which are very distracting and are, in my view, quite dangerous.

Agree on the flashing lights. Had a cyclist pull out behind me the other night and his light was flashing both very brightly and very quickly. Something like that is far worse than a continuous bright light since when it's continuous your eyes will adjust. When it's flashing they wont.
