Traveling for work on sunday

I work in sales & my company makes me travel for work on sunday. I do not get any kind of compensation for this. Is it legal?

Was this a change in duties from when you were first employed?

 

What (if anything) does your contract state regarding:

a) Sunday working

b) travel for work, and

c) expenses.

 

Is this "custom & practice" for the firm? Are all staff doing the same role as you treated the same regarding it?

You can only opt out of Sunday working if you work in retail or betting shops, as far as I am aware.

 

If your contract says you are expected to work whenever they set your hours, there probably isn't much you can do. If your contract says, for example, 9-5 Monday to Friday but they're now expecting you to work Sundays, that might not be lawful.

 

In terms of "compensation", if you're salaried they may not have to pay any extra (if they have the contractual right to ask you to work on Sundays) unless you have an entitlement to overtime on a Sunday.

If your objection about working Sunday arises from a religious belief, it is worth seeking advice about this. If it is merely an expectation of overtime pay, then it will depend on your original contract (as would also the religious issue).
