Was this a change in duties from when you were first employed?

What (if anything) does your contract state regarding:

a) Sunday working

b) travel for work, and

c) expenses.

Is this "custom & practice" for the firm? Are all staff doing the same role as you treated the same regarding it?

is your contract "hours required to do the job" or fixed hours?

Where and when do you finish on a Friday?

Is a job with travel really for you?

Never assume anyone on the internet is who they say they are. Only rely on advice from insured professionals you have paid for!

You can only opt out of Sunday working if you work in retail or betting shops, as far as I am aware.

If your contract says you are expected to work whenever they set your hours, there probably isn't much you can do. If your contract says, for example, 9-5 Monday to Friday but they're now expecting you to work Sundays, that might not be lawful.

In terms of "compensation", if you're salaried they may not have to pay any extra (if they have the contractual right to ask you to work on Sundays) unless you have an entitlement to overtime on a Sunday.

...or is this the case that a travelling employee has been told that he must travel on a Sunday and stay overnight in order to be at an appointment or on site on a Monday morning?

Any advice given is done so on the assumption that recipients will also take professional advice where appropriate.
