Hi

I got a voicemail message left on my mobile yesterday from a man who gave his name and said he was calling from Motormile Finance UK Ltd 'doorstep department'. The message said they had been trying to contact me and now they were going to do a home visit in the next few days, (they did not specify date or time). The message asked me to contact them using the automated reference number that suddenly came on. I also got a txt message on my phone with a number to ring and the same reference number. Unfortunately I have few payday loan debts and not sure which loan is being asked for. I have no choice but to work something out with National debt line. I have also moved address but the creditors were not informed, which means they may have been trying to get me on the old address. The issue for me is that if they turn up at my current address which I share with landlord and two students, and speak to my landlord, i could end up being given notice to quit by the landlord and in my current financial mess, homeless. I work.:-(

Have a read of http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/content.php?441-If-you-do-receive-a-doorstep-visit-we-give-these-suggestions-to-Members

Send them a letter with the info in that link, and if ANYONE comes to your house, tell them to sod off or you'll call the police. If they discuss ANYTHING with your landlord, they will be breaching the DPA ( for which you can sue them, especially if it results in you being homeless).

You MUST cover your back by sending that letter first thing in the morning. Send it by recorded delivery.

It is very unlikely these muppets will ever turn up, but if they should, you need to know your rights and how to deal with them. Remember, they have absolutely NO legal authority to come to your home or even speak to you without an invitiation, and im guessing you wont be inviting them any time soon.

Also, since they are threatening things, yet they havent stated what they are calling about, send them the following letter in the same envelope as the doorstep one. http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/content.php?428-General-debt-letter-if-you-know-nothing-of-the-debt

Now you have all that information, take a deep breath, have a cup of tea, and go get a good nights sleep. These idiots arent worth thinking about. We've dealt with them so much they even have their own subforum on this site!

One absolute key thing you must do as well, is to make a formal complaint with the OFT about this company. This way, they can be investigated for breaches of regulation.

Hope that helps you a little and eases your mind. Don't hesitate to post back if you need more info.

Wow! Renegadeimp!

Many thanks for the information... what a relief to know!...and you are not asking any money for this!!!!

I will post the letters in the morning by recorded delivery or at least give one of the letters to the door visiting person in the morning, should I not get the chance to reach the post office first!

Many thanks again!

Send both letters and keep a copy of the doorstep one just incase they do turn up.

If they turn up push the letter under the door to them or through the letter box and walk off. DO NOT GET INTO A CONVERSATION WITH THEM.

Remember, the collectors are commision based and only get paid if they get money from you. They will say and do anything to get money from you.

Their commision is usually around 20% so you can see why they bully and threaten people into paying. once you know how they work and more importantly your rights, they just seem laughable at best. they rely on your ignorance in order to exist.

Just an update, I sent recorded delivery letters as advised.

I received the following email yesterday:

Hi (My First Name)

We're contacting you about a financial matter related to Think Finance (UK) Ltd t/a 1 MONTH LOAN (debt assigned to Motormile Finance UK Ltd) and reference ( the reference number that they used before).

You may have already been contacted about this in the past, but it is possible that your situation or the terms being offered have changed.

[EDIT]

[EDIT]

I am still not sure of the loan they are asking for and have not heard of 'Think Finance (UK) Ltd' when I go into the suggested link [EDIT] it asks me to put in my postcode to verify who I am. white-corner-bottom-left.gifwhite-corner-bottom-right.gifcontent-block-footer-shadow.gif1x1.jpg?c=id-6zgq-7e-h824

Ignore it. Theyve pretty much admitted its a bad debt. Also, edit the link out if you are still around. It links direct to your account.
