Upon nearing completion of a payment plan with Wonga (all paid on time) my account has apparently been passed to Gothia.

 

The original loan was for £500 (inc 1 months interest), during the life of my 11 month plan I have repaid Wonga £550. I know everyone keeps saying pay back no more than the original loan plus one months interest (which i think I have), but Wonga have passed a balance of nearly another £500 to Gothia.

 

How do I stand with this now?

 

Any help appreciated guys.

I was on the other thread about Wonga passing to Gothia. Can I ask how you found out what had been transferred? Did Wonga or Gothia email / letter you?

Hi Peanut

 

The way I found out was by logging in to my Wonga account after I got the email about the account being passed on to a 3rd party. Upon logging in it just displays a message saying the debt has been transferred to Gothia and I should now deal with them. It then logs you out from your Wonga account.

I have had exactly the same issue with Wonga, have been on agreed repayment plan and not been late or missed any payments, final payment due this month, July, been paid. I too logged onto my account to see the message that debt sold to Gothia and to make contact with them. I emailed Wonga and called them to ask what they were doing and was told that some accounts had been passed in error to Gothia. I then re-emailed Wonga saying that debt had been paid in full and asked them why there were passing incorrect information to third party agencies. I also told them they needed to ensure I did not receive anything from Gothia and requested them immediately to take back the file from Gothia. I am waiting for their response

Hi Nortel, I have also emailed the CEO Errol Damelin and the Head of Collections/Fraud John Hegarty asking for a response and indeed asking Mr Hegarty how a file was passed over when the final payment was not yet due and no other payments missed. I doubt that they work weekends but will post any response once received.

Just wanted to let you now I have had both a phone call and an email from Wonga as below:

 

" Firstly I wanted to reassure you that your debt has been repaid in full. We realise the website is giving you information that would suggest your account has been passed to Gothia. Please rest assured that Gothia will NOT be contacting you at all. I am in the middle of an investigation to find out what has gone on with your profile – but in the mean time please do contact me at any time if you wish to discuss further or you need me to help you with anything further.

Thank you for making your final repayment and closing your account."

However, the web still states my account has been legally assigned to Gothia..... will let you know if I hear anything else

I have had the same problem with wonga, I missed the payment months ago and passed the debt on to my debt management !! ( who I think are paying them a little amount each month ) I still think they have added on lots & lots of interest.

I checked my wonga account I could not log in and asked me to contact GOTHIA !!! on Friday I had a phone call on my mobile and land line, I had a chat with a lady who was so rude to me, telling me not to speak until she had finished talking to me and to be honest worried me sick.

I was awake half the night last night !!!! She also said about a court case and i asked why i had not received a letter about all of this. She then said we dont send out letters !! she also wanted to know who my solictor was as they needed to contact them. ( oh my god I felt sick !!)

The crazy thing of all was WONGA sent me a email and text message 2 weeks ago and said my account had been paid in full !!!!!!!!!!! then about 3 hours later they sent me a email saying that they had sent me the messages in error. All very nasty & so pleased I logged onto here and have been reading your comments, IT HELPS so much.

The girl was less than truthful with you. You HAVE to have letters (at least a letter before action) if they are taking you to court and if they don't then they are in BIG trouble. You DO NOT need to have a solicitor to counter any court claim, I can write a defence which will destroy them easily - you are making payments, you are doing the right thing. the girl is probably on a high commission based salary (ie commission making up most of the salary) and performed badly last month - or is new and doesn't know the law.

 

Report the phone call and its contents to

 

http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk (for the OFT who are interested in the activities of payday loan companies at the moment)

http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk (for Trading Standards).

 

email [email protected] and complain to him about her lies and attitude problem, he is the top man there

 

Complain also to the Advertising Standards Authority as their horrible adverts say they are a friendly company and YOU control how much you can pay back.

 

If you do not complain loudly to the above people you are wasting your time on this site. I cannot stress enough that you must complain, whist the authorities do not deal with individual complaints they group them together and if they get a lot of the SAME type of complaint then they have to act.

Hi there

 

Sorry to jump in, but wanted to get some advice.

 

I have today received an email from Gothia, stating that they have "bought" my loan from Wonga, and the email has a link to a website which tells me how much I alledgedly owe.

 

Now, I did borrow some money from Wonga last year, and then fell into financial difficulty, which resulted in the loan interest accruing to a total of almost £900.

 

After a lot of emails back and forth, I finally got Wonga to agree to a 10 month payment plan of £89.63, which I started paying in November 2010 (I still have all these emails - god bless my OCD in keeping everything!).

 

I have not missed any payments etc, so was expecting that this month would be my last payment to them.

 

However, upon checking this Gothia website it is saying I owe over £1,200!!!

 

I have responded to the email and said that I have been paying (and have proof of payments), and asked them that they write to me with proof of ownership of the debt.

 

Can anyone tell me if there is something else I should do, as after researching CAG, I have see that a number of people have had home visits from this Gothia shower, and I do not want them showing up at my house...

Got the same email. Thing is I've already paid the original loan plus 1 months interest during a repayment plan. Now Gothia want another £500.

Any advice on how to approach Gothia with this?

Goldenboy ignore Gothia and report them to Trading Standards and the Office of Fair Trading, report One Debt as well.

 

As long as you stick to the orginal loan amount and one months interest as repayment you have no further liability to any of the companies or their debt collecting dogs.

Hi there - I have had a similar email from Gothia re an outstanding Wonga debt - I have looked back old emails from Wonga - defaulted end of September last year - they say owing £1095 - Gothia now saying debt is £3135 and terms and conditions may have changed. They say don't contact Wonga because they no longer hold any of my details. I was in email discussions about repaying with Wonga until December last year. I refused to give a debit card to make payments and asked for a bank account and sort code and they ignored me and stopped emailing me. Not sure what I should do from here - currenty on statutory maternity pay until Feb next year.

I'd emailed Gothia on Monday after they had sent me notification of the debt being passed from Wonga. They replied today with an automated email giving an option of monthly payments. Agreed a payment plan with them and didn't have to speak to anyone.

 

Thankfully I have that monkey off my back.
