Got a text from Experian today saying changes had been made to my Credit File. I logged on when I got home to see my balance owing total had risen bu over £4,000 and the number of credit accounts (including those settled) had doubled to 46.

Checked my Credit Report to see that nearly all of my accounts had been duplicated on my Credit Report, including 2 defaults for the same account and two satisfied defaults for another account.

Have emailed them asking them to remove all of the duplicated entries. Will let you know how I get on.

Has anybody else encountered this before?

Hi

I had the exact same thing happen to me, I emailed them and they blamed me, something about there being two addresses linked to my file - when in fact they were one and the same! Some rubbish story I think to cover up the fact that something had gone wrong with their system.

Anyway they cleared it up quickly - within about 3 days (over a weekend) and my credit file looked far more healthy without all the duplicate accounts.

Mines got duplicated x3 which made for interesting but very confusing reading, i emailed them and they sorted it out within a few days. They claimed it wouldn't affect a credit report in any way but surely having 12 defaults is worse than 4.

Have £20k+ in debt, seriously want to be debt free, currently in temporary accomodation and having business problems.

That problem takes 5 seconds to fix (just a single delete button)...ask them on the cancellations line (0800) to do it for you...will clear up immediately provided that you hadn't logged in previously that day...otherwise 24 hrs.

my experience with the CRAs is that letters do indeed get treated with more gravity and speed than emails, yes. It may be a waste of money but if they are sent recorded they see you mean business and will follow up any non-response.

ps my o/h had 35+ 'aliases' on her file. why? because she got married and had a maiden name 10+ years ago which she hasn't used once since. What did Exqueerian do about it? Nuffin, not y email anayway. That changed when put pen to paper; but, even now there are 20 entries and of these 15 are by the same lender. Bleedin disgrace. They tell us it makes no difference to a credit score but how can it otherwise?

i too had a problem with credit expert. got my rating to 999 after a long time. checked it 3 months later to find it had dropped to 466!

checked my report and found to my horror that every institution i was involved with was shown in triplicate!

my debts had risen from £18000 to £58000.

i contacted credit expert by email, and recieved a reply stating that it was because my name and address had been inserted twice (not by me). they would correct the input and all should be well.

3weeks later and its done. back to normal, but its cost me £20+ to check! a nice little earner for the cra's me thinks.

have you told them to put that right? To my mind it has to look as if a consumer is trying to obtain credit by deception if there are 30+ aliases on her credit file. it doesn't look good whichever way you look at it. I remember sitting behind counsel on a criminal fraud case many years back as a junior clerk and the defendants were a couple who got credit and businness loans by changing their names slightly and odd little differences in their potsal address which computers weren't picking up on. So, on one hand while I can see where the CRAs are coming from, on the other hand it makes decent, hardworking ordinary people look like bleedin fraudsters when all they have done is got married and reported their maiden name on credit applications.

I honestly think bad data is a bigger problem than they let on. Its so damaging as well. In my opinion they should suffer some form of litigation to get themselves in gear. All issues affect the consumer not them! they still get their bureau fees from the lenders irrespective of whether the consumers data is of bad or good quality. Try and get the costs refunded as a minimum. threaten legal action (obvioulsy you will have to back this up + also write to the data protection officer). The credit expert thing is a con as well - £8 pe rmonth for your data!!!! shocking the only thing it does is give you an idea of how your crdit file is interpretted by lenders, and there are some free apps that can do that. If you have an iphone i found icreditscore to be really helpful, you can take data off your credit file and it gives you a score and tells you where you would probably lose points and its free!if you choose any litigtion good luck!!!

Hi GMJ, I agree with much of what you say but as to credit reports from ''other CRA'S users should be aware

that the data even from the 3rd. largest CRA used in the UK is often misleading and out of date

and may give you a totally different picture from that seen by potential lenders on the 2 main CRA's.

creditcondidential.com which it would seem is a call credit spin off.
