Hello Please offer some advice,

I have made a stupid mistake, brought a car from auto trader online with a garage, we got there and he gave us a document to send off to the DVLA and then promised us that the rest of the documents would follow as they had flood damage in their office which was clear too see when we were there.

We have had no documents phone calls that have been made to them since, once they answerd promising to call back they have not and now the telephone number is dead :(

I have no idea where to go from here.

If you have a reciept for the car then the car is yours. The log book which i am assuming you are waiting for is a document that states who the registered keeper is and that is not proof of ownership. If you require a log book you can apply for one from DVLA who will contact the previous owner to advise that they are changing registered keeper to you.
